re: Musicals that would make nice movies
 Jul 2 2007, 04:12:43 PM
The right director can make the most unlikely of shows work. So I think anything has potential.

But the musical I would most like to see turned into a movie would be Miss Saigon.

Are Touch Me, My Junk, The Word of Your Body and its reprise, I Believe, The Guilty Ones, Whispering, Those You've Known, and the Song of Purple Summer really angsty? I mean, really? Maybe one or two of them sort of have angsty undertones- for instance, if there were no sexual repression, than The Word of Your Body wouldn't be as... interesting- but they're not truly angsty songs. At least I don't think so. And that's like half the score.

Plus, I no its no revelation, but... teena

Oooops, double post.

re: The Avenue Q Tour Thread

Maybe this isn't the place to ask, but why isn't Avenue Q coming to Chicago?

Is it just because our theatres are filled up with long-running productions of things like Wicked?

re: The Pirate Queen

I agree that its unfortunate it got ZERO noms. I agree that it deserved some of the lesser ones. But that's the politics of the Tony's, I guess. Stuff like that always happens. In the case of the Pirate Queen, its not tragic.

KQuill, I prefer the Broadway Revival, despite the fact that I originally heard the Original Off-Broadway Recording. I only got the Broadway Revival because I was so intrigued by the original. On the other hand, a friend of mine was totally indifferent to the show until she heard the revival. I think Neil Patrick Harris as the balladeer, The Ballad of Guiteau (which I find uninteresting in the original, but adore in the revival), and the inclusion of Sam Byck's "Have it Your Way" monologue ar
re: Les Mis CD question

I actually recommend the Tenth Anniversary instead of either of those. I know for a fact that Amazon has it, and I seem to recall that iTunes actually has it as well (could be wrong about that). If you're only going to buy one Les Miz CD, that would be the one to buy (in my opinion).

If you really want either the OBC or the OLC, I would recommend the OLC. I also really, really dislike the OBC.

re: Fave Spring Awakening track

Currently, my favorite is Touch Me. It's just so beautiful!

Close seconds are Mama Who Bore Me (both) and I Don't Do Sadness.

I really like Purple Summer, too, which surprised me because I didn't really like the clips I heard of it. About Purple Summer, though, I haven't seen the show (although I know the plot, including all the really major spoilers) and I was just wondering if anyone could explain to me the basic "meaning" of the song? I kind of get it, but I don't want

That's it. Thank you soooo much!

Help identifying one-act
 Sep 10 2006, 11:16:23 PM
I know that last year one of the one-act plays my school put on was called 'Admissions.'

Does anyone know the author?

I'd really like to be able to actually read it. I didn't get a chance to see it, but it was talked about a LOT. It apparantly involves someone facing judgment (like they are dead and being judged), and they are asked questions like "What did you do about AIDS?"

They are both quite good, but I personally prefer Benanti on this song.

I don't hate Webber, I don't love Webber. I enjoy Webber, sometimes a lot, sometimes not so much (depending on the show). even if you like Cats... I don't understand how someone who wrote that can criticize other shows for being nothing but fluff.

I wouldn't call the ending of Evita upbeat, but it's not deep, heart-wrenching, and the most powerful, meaningful thing ever.

Cats aside, look at what he is doing now.

Mr. Webber, who is currently looking for a Maria

I'm a Randal Keith person.

Although, I'm rather curious as to how Alexander is going to do this fall. I wish I could get over there to see him.

re: Do you ever leave a show during intermission?
 Aug 3 2006, 04:56:38 PM
I came the closest I ever have to walking out of a show during intermission this summer. It was an outdoor production of the Merchant of Venice, and it was the worst thing I have ever seen in my life. And I would absolutely have left (something I never thought I would do), if I hadn't been with a school group. My teachers actually called us all together to try to decide whether or not to stay. One of the girl mentioned that it would be best if we left, because we couldn't get through the nex

I saw her on her second night, and enjoyed her. I thought she was very solid (at worst).
re: Sweeney - The First Coming
 Aug 2 2006, 01:09:58 AM
I liked it very, very much before the revival.

I saw a college production of it last April (and loved the OBC), back when they were just reporting "Hey, there's going to be a Sweeney Todd revival!" And I heard the description, and was like, "Eh, that's going to suck." Then it got good reviews, I picked up the cast recording and loved that as well, and saw the current production and loved it.

I confess that I do love it more now. But I think having a professional productin a

I enjoyed it more than I did the current touring cast. *shrugs*

Glad you liked it!

Valjean is not the most interesting role (in my opinion), but Randal Keith is my FAVORITE Valjean ever.

re: Les Miserables Info Please?
 Jun 2 2006, 11:11:06 PM
I would absolutely recommend seeing it. It's one of my favorites, and it's what first got me into theatre. It's amazing, and the tour usually doesn't disappoint. Go, and have a great time!
re: When will they announce this year's TONY performance numbers?
 May 31 2006, 09:51:49 PM
I would be really annoyed if they did a medley for Sweeney. Plus, wouldn't that be at least more difficult than usual b/c of their playing their own instruments?

I would like them to do The Ballad of Sweeney Todd, although the sad thing about that is it doesn't really show off the leads. Obviously, I'd be okay with A Little Priest, but I'm not sure I'd want to see a condensed version of that...
