A sharp new retelling of Richard III. Concise. Modern. Innovative. Apr 19
2024, 09:30:05 AM
Richard III By William Shakespeare
A sharp new retelling of this Shakespearean drama. Concise. Modern. Innovative.
An ambitious, manipulative, ruthless man, scheming to reach the height of power.
This retelling of one of Shakespeare’s most popular history plays does away with duels, grandly dressed nobles and pitched battles, taking us instead to the current seat of power in the United Kingdom: Westminster.
The green benches and corridors buzz with betrayal, deception and plots as our protagonist tries to clear the obstacles blocking his route to the ultimate prize – and then to cling desperately to his position.
Combining a modern political setting with innovative technical elements and Shakespeare’s timeless prose, this fresh production will tell the old story of Richard III in a new way, connecting with those seeing the story for the first time and delighting abiding fans.
9-18 May 2024 7.30pm evenings, 2.30pm Saturday matinees No show on Sunday 12 May
Bridewell Theatre Bride Lane Off Fleet Street London EC4Y 8EQ
Tickets from £12.50

Just So - Kipling’s famous tales take you on a song-filled journey through the jungle Jan 27
2024, 12:00:58 PM
Just So
Music by George Stiles Lyrics by Anthony Drewe Inspired by the stories of Rudyard Kipling
Five of Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories come together into a wondrous tale of personal courage, individuality and friendship. Set to an eclectic, upbeat score, Kipling’s famous tales are woven with wit and imagination into a song-filled journey through the jungle.
Join us on this journey with the young, effervescent and inquisitive Elephant’s Child and the sassy, sarcastic and flightless Kolokolo Bird as they set out to save their friends and family from the wicked Pau Amma who is threatening their homeland.
On our journey through this magical tale, we’ll meet a wide array of fun loving characters, from a Kangaroo who is shocked to see the rate at which his legs have grown, to a Parsee Man who lives seemingly alone with his seemingly inanimate stove…
Let the Eldest Magician take you on this wondrous tale through lush jungles, dusty savannahs and the ever looming great, grey and greasy Limpopo River in Just So this March.

7.30pm evenings, 2.30pm Saturday matinee

Amadeus by Peter Shaffer, 23 Nov-3 Dec 2022 in central London Aug 28
2022, 11:21:17 AM
AMADEUS By Peter Shaffer
MUSIC, GENIUS, JEALOUSY AND REVENGE
"I looked on astounded as from his ordinary life he made his art. We were both ordinary men, he and I. Yet from the ordinary he created legends - and I from legends created only the ordinary!"
Antonio Salieri is the established composer in the Austrian court. Enter the greatest musical genius of all time: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Salieri has given himself to God so that he might realise his sole ambition, to be a great composer. Mozart is a foul-mouthed, graceless oaf, but he has something which is far beyond Salieri’s envious grasp: genius.
Peter Shaffer’s award-winning fictionalised account of the relationship between these two real life composers is a story for all time. Presented in a way which reaches far beyond the play’s historical roots, this production of Amadeus takes the audience on a wild ride through the trials and tribulations of music, genius, jealousy and revenge.
“Peter Shaffer's greatest play" The Stage

Good review for Sedos's "Baby" - four shows left Jul 12
2012, 08:19:57 AM
Sedos's production of Maltby & Shire's Baby has received a four-star review from Remote Goat: "Sedos' brave decision to put [Baby] on as part of their three-week summer festival deserves to draw in the crowds… it is carried out with conviction, talent and enthusiasm… [the ending] will produce a lump in the throat of even the most cynical theatre-goer. Directors Roger Harwood and Dawn Harrison-Wallace have managed to make the case that this show should be performed more often. This is an enjoyable evening's entertainment that is much recommended." Read the full review here (but be warned there are a few plot spoilers!): http://www.remotegoat.co.uk/review_view.php?uid=8746 Baby runs until Saturday night at the Bridewell Theatre, just off Fleet Street, and tickets are available at www.sedos.co.uk.
