RENT is the best movie ever cant wait to see it on stage and dvd....RENT... Aug 28
2006, 01:52:29 AM
I love the movie, no question, but there is something about sitting in the Nederlander (yes, even now) that makes seeing Rent amazing. No movie can capture that and I don't expect it to try, but, wow, you haven't seen Rent until you've seen it there.

There is a 4-track demo for High Fidelity that was distributed at the group sales presentation in May. I don't know who the cast on it is however. The High Fidelity website is www.topfivebreakups.com, but there's not much there yet, so I have no idea where you might legally get ahold of the tracks.

I could be wrong, but I believe Jonathan Larson wrote a spoof of Animal Farm that can't be performed because Orwell's estate won't grant permission.

Worst. Lyrics. EVER. Aug 13
2006, 12:13:22 AM
From Rent's "Light My Candle": "I know I've seen you out and abOUT When I used to go OUT Your candle's OUT" It drives me crazy when they use the same word to rhyme and to do it 3 times (because many Roger's definitely emphasize "abOUT") just makes me cringe *every* time.

Thank you musicman89 and FoscasBohemianDream. It seems like people keep forgetting that DRV was CAST. By musical theater PROFESSIONALS. It wasn't a random fan-choice, or lottery drawing. One assumes that these people know what they're doing and I'm all for giving them the benefit of the doubt. I only hope I get to see this Les Mis. It sounds fascinating!

The two other theaters listed on the Broadway L.A. website are the Brentwood and Wadsworth. I'm pretty sure that the Nederlander organization's goal will be to keep shows in L.A. proper, though they might recruit another theater. It's nice to have Orange County and San Diego theaters scenes as alternatives, but I highly doubt either will be used as a replacement. Both of the mentioned theaters are either part of UCLA or right next to it, specifics escape me and the website map is terrib

ZANNA DON'T - "I Think We Got Love", "Sometime, Do You Think We Could Fall In Love? " TABOO - "Love Is A Question Mark" They're duety and would probably never get radio play, but I think they'd do nicely alongside Rent et al as "passable showtunes".

re: Is Tim Howar extending his Rent stay past July 29th? Jul 23
2006, 02:46:06 AM
I've heard (not through reliable sources, but it's definitely quite a prolific rumor) that Tim is leaving to tour with his band but will be returning to Rent. The speculation is that since they just hired Christopher J. Hanke, and we've yet to hear any casting news for Roger, a swing will be bumped up to play Roger until Tim's return.

I hate to admit that I know this, but Idina Menzel changed the spelling of her last name from "Mentzel". Hardly groundbreaking, but a change nonetheless.

I have a LOT of Rent on my iPod, so inevitably something from that show gets played at least once an hour or so. But my 25 top listened to includes the following songs from musicals: One Song Glory - Rent You're A Fool - Rent NYTW Light My Candle - Rent You'll Get Over It - Rent NYTW Defying Gravity - Wicked Johnny Can't Decide - tick... tick... BOOM! For Good - Wicked Without You - Rent Love is a Question Mark - Taboo

re: LA Wicked sit down Jul 7

It *seemed* like The Lion King was at the Pantages forever, but it ran there for less than a year. Honestly, the Pantages could very well be the place for a Wicked sit down. I personally hope not because I'd like them to continue Broadway LA and think that would be more sucessful, but, um, no one asked me.

re: LA Wicked sit down Jul 6

Right now about 3/4 of the Broadway LA shows are at the Pantages and a few are at Wadsworth and Brentwood. NOTHING is at Wilshire. I suppose it's possible that they'd shift the rest of the Broadway LA program to those theaters, but it still seems odd that they'd want to commit the Pantages so thoroughly.

re: LA Wicked sit down Jul 6

I freely admit that I don't know anything about this but what I've read on this thread, but it does strike me as odd that Pantages would be up for a sit down. I'm sure of all current shows, Wicked would be the biggest most profitable draw for a West Coast audience, but I'm not sure it would be as/more sucessful than the current Broadway-LA program Pantages has going. It's not like other shows will stop touring the West Coast if the Pantages has Wicked. It seems like one of the other th

Oh people. I love how it's assumed that an actor's on Broadway forEVER. Still, that's better than my music major roommate who when we were talking about Rent was impressed with the fact that the movie used most of the original cast "except Rosario Dawson and Taye Diggs". She was stunned when I told her Taye was OBC and I'm still not sure she believes me.

When I went to see Rent (although it WAS a Sunday night a few months ago) everyone who played won lotto. It's probably a pretty safe bet.
