^Glad to hear that, I bought $45 seats for the first preview.

I actually have to disagree with you on the boring part of this review...while the production does have its flaws and it isn't the best Hamlet ever, Jude Law is giving a phenomenal performance and I didn't find myself bored at all.
re: have you ever or have you ever seen anyone walk out of a show?

My dad walked out of Lennon (which, believe me, I don't blame him for as it was abysmal...although I enjoyed the music and the cast was wonderful) when we saw it in previews in New York. Also, when I saw Spring Awakening a week ago, two women walked out during the homosexual scene that's sort of in the middle of Act II between Hanschen and Ernst...I've never seen anyone get up & leave a theater that quickly.

I have the Company OBC and I love it. I'd also recommend the Sunday in the Park with George original Broadway cast if you can find it, the Into the Woods OBC, and the 2004 Assassins revival.

"If you liked L5Y, I highly recommend Parade. It is my favorite of Brown's scores, which is really saying something."

Parade is so brilliant. I bought it after I bought Last 5 Years, and I absolutely fell in love with it.

re: Humorous Occurrence at Last Night's Sweeney

The ushers at Sweeney last night were pretty rude...there was this girl who had a seat that was all the way like...on the wall on the right side, and she was short & couldn't see, so a few minutes before the show started, she asked me & the girl who was 2 seats down from me if there was anyone sitting in the seat in-between us...when we said we didn't know and a couple minutes later, the person hadn't yet shown up, she moved to the seat so she could see better. The ushers promptly came down and
Farewell, Sweeney!

"They were so in the moment last night, and so connected. There were times when they would just look at eachother for a moment, and they were not censoring themselves at all. So real."

I agree...the show was so visceral and real and raw last night. It was incredible.

I walked past the stage door on my way from the Drowsy stage door to Sweeney, and I blew the theater a kiss...just my way of saying goodbye. I saw the show three times...it will be missed.

Farewell, Sweeney!

I was at the show last night...it was so incredible. It was my 4th time seeing the show, and I have never seen the cast that energized and emotional and intense. One of my favorite moments was the "Johanna" quartet, which is first of all my favorite song in the show, and secondly...pretty much the entire cast just lost it during that song. Also, when Sweeney kills Lovett, when Patti threw her head back, you could just see the tears streaming down her face, and it was just such an intense moment
re: Actors that phoned in their performance
 Aug 25 2006, 06:56:18 PM
I saw the revival of Fiddler on the Roof twice...the first time was Alfred Molina and Randy Graff as Tevye and Golde, and the second time was with Harvey Fierstein and Andrea Martin. The first time, the entire cast's performances seemed phoned-in and really sub-par. When Harvey Fierstein and Andrea Martin came in, it really changed the whole dynamic of the show and made it far more interesting. Except Nancy Opel...she was just awful both times. Not phoned-in, just...bad. And she seemed completel

I'm going as well...I'm sitting in Row B of the orchestra on the right side.
re: i dont really understand...

I thought that Katie had a very pretty voice, and her acting was good, but I was expecting her to go into full-out head voice on those high notes, and...she didn't. They sounded strained. I had never heard the Piazza music before the telecast, though, except for "Statues and Stories", which was done on the Tonys last year, so I went in not really knowing what Kelli O'Hara sounded like.
re: Interesting Wicked seating question
 Jun 17 2006, 05:40:14 PM
I personally haven't sat in the partial view seats at the Gershwin, but I know people who have, and you should be fine. You may have to sit up at some parts, but as pjsings said, pretty much everything is downstage or in the middle of the stage, so it really shouldn't matter.
re: Hilarious Comments Overheard By Tourists and Audience Members

Several years ago, when I saw Urinetown on Broadway, there was this older couple sitting behind me, and the man was ranting and raving during intermission...it was hysterical.
"What have they done with the theater?! (the theater had been painted completely black) And what are these COSTUMES?! And these SETS?!"
For those that don't know, in Urinetown, the costumes are basically like rags for most of the characters, and the "set" is a revolving wall-type thing in the center of the stage th

re: Grade the 2006 Tony Award musical performances

Jersey Boys: C...I was unimpressed by it, honestly.
The Color Purple: C-...Also very unimpressed. The song choice was not the best...although, I don't know the show, so I can't judge too much.
The Wedding Singer: A...The cast was so full of energy, and they all seemed just really excited to be there.
The Drowsy Chaperone: B...I am not a fan of Sutton Foster, and I was not impressed by this performance either.
The Threepenny Opera: B-...It intrigued me to see the show, in spite o

re: Who's Leaving?

Patti LuPone has extended, I believe, although until when is indefinite. I know that Judy Kaye will be filling in as Lovett in August, but those dates aren't definite either. And millie_dillmount, the length of the contract depends on the person. If it's an open-ended run, it can be anywhere from 6 months to a year, depending on how big a star someone is...Jonathan Pryce will have only been in DRS for 6 months when he leaves, for example.
re: Worst movie musical
 Jun 16 2006, 11:43:52 PM
I couldn't even sit through 15 minutes of Man of La Mancha. It was on TV and my parents were watching it, so I sat and watched because I was kind of curious. When Peter O'Toole started singing...that was when I left the room. And then subsequently turned on the revival recording to hear Brian Stokes Mitchell.

A Chorus Line was just awful. I saw a local high school production of it that I enjoyed more than the movie. Plus, "The Music and the Mirror" was completely cut. Umm...
