re: Awkward Stage Door Moments Jun 23

These ones aren't stage door, but the awkward certainly fits: 1.) I was sitting next to Kathryn Grayson at a big to-do in Las Vegas, and a woman walked up to her and asked, "Weren't you Kathryn Grayson?" I whispered, under my breath, "No, I was." Thankfully, neither one heard me. 3.) Standing outside Birdland, having a cigarette, when Christine Ebersole and her husband walked out the front door. A girl started yelling, "OH MY GOD, THAT'S FLORENCE HENDERSON!" Not sure what was worse,

glitteringjazzhands... seriously? why? that's possibly creepier than the chick who sang at me in a gift shop and proceeded to tell me christine ebersole had mono. and a book could be written about that one's exploits.

re: I love Patti but why does she always Jun 17

When asked the same questions over and over, it would stand to reason that she says the same things over and over. About the imdb rumor, I agree with whoever said they wouldn't trust anything from those boards. According to them, Kathryn Grayson and Ann Miller were passing as white. Nothing wrong with the concept, but saying something like that, or the Patti comment which does contain the element of a moral deficiency, just to start a rumor is the disease that long ago killed the reliability

re: Who was the nicest Broadway actor or actress you met? Apr 24
2008, 04:53:30 PM
If we're straying a little from Broadway, as I always get confused as to whether she actually took over for Julie Andrews in Camelot, or just took it on tour... Kathryn Grayson is the absolute nicest celebrity I have ever met. She was so lovely to me, even offered me cookies the first time I met her, haha. As far as definite Broadway- there are simply no words to describe how lovely Marian Seldes is. And Christine Ebersole is pretty stellar. :)

re: Understudies You Liked Better Than the Person Playing the Role Apr 24

I saw Asa Somers go on as Joe/Jerry in Grey Gardens while Matt Cavenaugh was on vacation in March 2007. I loved him in the role, but didn't realize until I saw Matt in the part in July how much better Asa was. Matt seemed alright with the accents on the oobcr, but by the time I saw him, he seemed to have made it into an almost laughable impersonation.

Oh, and it has to be said..... Patti's husband is a total hottie! Agreed! I'm thinking, "Why are we going on about baby Josh, when Matt is so clearly a silver fox?"

re: Douglas Carter Beane Lovingly Steers 'Band Wagon' to Create Broadway-Ai Mar 11

The idea sounds like it could be marvelous, but in some way, it seems to negate the whole point of The Bandwagon- Adding too much drama and reading far too much into what is intended to be a lighthearted and fun piece just winds you up in disaster.

I had a minor meltdown at the beginning of the second act of Grey Gardens, the Friday before closing. Of course, my friend and I are probably the only emotional cripples that cried through half of Deuce. (And no, not because it was a bad show, jokesters. )

re: worst movie musical Mar 7

It has to be The Vagabond King, with Kathryn Grayson and Oreste Kirkop. Kathryn muddles through this mess of horrible editing alongside Oreste, whose dialogue had to be dubbed, as he couldn't speak English. As much as I love Kathryn, there was just nothing at all she could do to save that sunken ship. Meet Me In St. Louis isn't a bad movie at all, just boring from time ti time, in my opinion. I agree with whoever said Brigadoon. Good for aesthetic pleasure, not much else. Another re

Isla is the worst role in that show...and that's saying something as there are MANY ****ty roles in that show.

re: Why Was Kiss Me Kate in 3-D? Jan 12
2008, 09:19:56 PM
It was a gimmick to get people in the theaters, and away from their fancy new televisions. I've never seen any reason why Kiss Me Kate was chosen, but George Sidney certainly did a great job with it. And the wardrobe department held nothing back where it came to Kathryn Grayson and the mens' costumes, hmm? It's said that Kathryn couldn't watch it all the way through, back when it was released, in 3-D. The glasses made her nauseous.

re: the problem with Grey Gardens Oct 23
2007, 01:19:19 PM
Thank God you've come along to point this out for us. And all along I thought it was the intention of the writers of the show to keep that question open for speculation. I bet they just threw something together haphazardly in a basement and hoped people bought it, without research at all.

One of my favorites is King Solomon's Mines. She and Stewart Granger play off one another so well. I love the scene where she gets fed up with her hair and chops it all off. :)

Can we just accept that Chason is a troll? I think it's pretty obvious now that he's fighting with himself and trying so very hard to make his grammar and sentence STRUCTURE appear DIFFERENT. And for the argument- as long as Burton doesn't turn it into a nearly all-dancing film, a la MGM's treatment of Brigadoon, I'm fine.

re: Everyone I meet at stage doors Aug 22

I've also met a few people who say they post here...but won't give out their online identities...hmmm? Well, when someone has such *cough* obvious connections, it might break some law to expose who he/she is online! I think it's kind of fun to meet the people behind the screen names. And I have to admit, being called "Miss Vanessi" in public without first having been a bitch is rather enjoyable, haha.
