re: FULL HONEYMOON NYC TRIP REPORT
 Jan 15 2008, 03:15:09 PM
Congratulations on the wedding! As for the recap...it sounds like you two had a complete blast. Thanks for posting the reviews of the restaurants! My dad LOVES hotdogs so I'll definitely be taking him to Gray's Papaya next time we're in the city!

I love how half of these are of LB...

including mine. Not incredibly funny or anything, but in the dialogue during Harvard Variations on 1/2 (when Elle comes in, introduces herself as does Enid), LBB exclaimed "Omigod...both of our names start with an A." LBB just made a funny face like "what am i talking about.."

re: Daily News Drama Critic Reacts to Merrick-esque GREASE! Ad

this ad is hilarious

i have to agree that its giving a new revival a bad reputation. it just seems so utterly pathetic, or is that just me? :)

its one thing for a show to get a bad rap for being horrible (which this show, while not horrible, it was not good)....and its another thing to be seen as pathetic/deceptive. Which raises the previous question, just how many people fell for it?

CurtainPullDowner,

I just went to the site because I too was curious. Laura Mom basically said she had a blast, thought each actor "owned" each character, was impressed that it was the debut for 14 actors, wasn't surprised by reviews, and was happy to hear that her daughter got ok/positive mentions more often than bashing remarks. And of course, she's proud of her daughter.

They also posted a topic called "Grease's big 'Bite Me!' to the NY Critics" regarding the "The One That I

time to add some love to the thread!

i saw MP on july 24th and thought it was fantastic. Ashley and Gavin were great, and very gracious at the stagedoor. Luker, too, was phenomenal!

re: Visiting NYC - Broadway questions

just some more feedback...

i too have had problems with ticketmaster online. I received much better seats (and more selections than online) by calling ticketmaster. Have a great trip!

thanks for the review! i may be seeing this in january and love hearing feedback from the first few previews, the last previews to note changes, and more! im disappointed about the flounder costume and the "under the sea" staging...

although i look forward to the "if only" quartet immensely!

p.s. - jeremykushnier1fan, i think your avatar is amazing. what bear is best? ok...back to TLM...

re: Anyone go to NYC for the sole purpose of watching shows?
 Aug 10 2007, 02:08:56 AM
my first trip to NYC I only saw one show and did all the "touristy" stuff. I raved about the city (mainly the ONE show) and convinced my mom to go back 6 months later. We did the "touristy" stuff again and saw two shows. 6 months later, we went for the sole purpose of shows...4 in 3 days. I'm glad I got to see the city but love that now, I can squeeze in as many shows as possible. It makes for a great trip!

p.s. we're planning our next trip for january...specifically for the shows.

Yankee,

I too noticed the slowed tempo for the songs. So while I was holding out hope til the last beat for some amazing choreography... what choreography was planned seemed to dread on and on

i mean...i guess it wasn't THAT bad...but i just wanted to see the great things that I heard about Ms. Marshall in The Pajama Game!

re: Legally Blonde Comments?
 Aug 2 2007, 02:40:42 AM
sleepyguy,

i thoroughly enjoyed LB. However, I didn't go in with extremely high expectations (not to take away from LB's validity of being on bway). I knew what it was...its Legally Blonde...its meant to be a fun, enjoyable 2 1/2 hours of theatre, not anything socially challenging. I bought the cast recording a few days prior to seeing it but didn't listen to the last few songs (which I'm happy i didn't), and it made the songs familiar but didn't reveal any surprising plot events.

Thanks Yankee for your review. I'm really interested to see if anything is changing with each passing preview since i saw the second show.

I agree with almost everything said... especially about Kathleen Marshall's directing/choreographing ...or lack thereof?

However, I did enjoy Max's performance a little more than you. While not an instant broadway legend by any means, he wasn't as big of a problem for me. Then again, I don't know the show as well as you.

I was in the Front Mezz and they were slightly off as far as being matched up...maybe 6 inches from being "exactly behind" the row in front...from what i remember! i'm not completely sure though, sorry
re: Which show would YOU be in?

due to the most recent shows i've seen...

Elle, Paulette, Vivienne in Legally Blonde (seems like it would be a complete blast!)

Mary Poppins...

re: Worst Broadway Audience Ever?
 Jul 29 2007, 05:08:51 PM
marilynrita - i know what you mean. i'm not sure of your interest (or lack thereof) in GREASE, but if you ever see it just know that the screaming after every song (and with every entrance of max and laura) is there. That was an interesting audience experience to say the least...

good luck to the Elle u/s for both shows, be it one or two! If anyone goes, please let us know how it went!
