re: Broadway Weekend with the Nephews - Part 1...if anyone cares (Hairspray

Glad you had such a good time. And THANK YOU for taking your nephews to Brodway! Introducing young people to Broadway is SO incredibly important. Kudos.

How long till Piazza is available for ameteur productions through MTI and the like?

I'd die to do this show.

If Zac Efron showed his plastic face on the Broadway stage I would be kicked out of the theater for assault/battery/all-of-the-above on account of thrusting sharp projectile objects at the stage in his direction!

There is no way he is even NEAR ready for Broadway. Ugh. I just threw up in my mouth.

If Nikki showed her face on stage, life would be made right again.

re: Finally Saw The Color Purple...

A lot of people criticize TCP music score...

But I can honestly say that it is one of my top favorite CDs [and that is saying a lot for a collection as large as mine]. It is so incredibly powerful and it NEVER gets old.

Amen to the out-of-this-world performance by Fantasia.

Beats Drowsy Chaperone any day of the week.

Guess it just depends on what cup of tea you prefer!

Amen! Amen! Amen! Ditto! Ditto! Ditto!

Amazing is an understatement!

I saw her back in May in the show and was blown away. [And I went in with a lot of doubts...] WOW. I honestly wish I had a recording of her doing the show... I just watch the Tony clip frequently!

I showed my friend the Tony clip and she BAWLED like a baby... THREE TIMES IN A ROW!!! I'm not the crying type AT ALL but I'll admit I got about as close as you can get to tears watching Fantasia live. Just

VARIETY SHOWS
 Aug 19 2007, 11:41:09 PM
Does anyone have any really excellent variety show ideas?

I'd like to put a charity benefit together for a group of young performers. I'm thinking a dinner theater variety show night!

There's always the "Cabaret" idea or perhaps a Christmas variety show... I'd like to find a strong theme or something to link everything together.

Just wondering if there is some brilliant idea out there that anyone knows of?

You're A Good Man Charlie Brown Qs...
 Aug 19 2007, 08:05:34 PM
I always feel stupid making posts like this but I'm gonna suck it up and do it anyway...

What can anyone tell me about choosing "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" as a local theater production?

I went to the website and ordered the perusal material to look into it more but I've got a few questions specifically I can't find the answers to... [in my opinion the script company did a poor job of explaining the details of the show on their site].

How many people total are in the cast? Is there any room to add chorus memebers [and is something like that allowed?]

How good of singers [and how many good singers] are needed to make the show a success?

How easy/difficult is the show overall and could beginners pull it off?

Okay... that's all... thank you much!

[feel free to share anything and everything you know about the show!]

re: Trip to NYC
 Jul 23 2007, 12:50:14 AM
Passing up RENT with that cast would just be stupid.

And I, for one, have NEVER been to NYC without seeing Wicked...

Also... if Fantasia is still in The Color Purple then you MUST go see it! She is beyond incredible.

I personally am dying to see Grey Gardens too because who knows how long it will last...

re: Hairspray the movie
 Jul 23 2007, 12:48:08 AM
At first I hated the concept of Travolta not playing up the "man being a woman" and instead trying to be just "all woman." It seemed to defy the ENTIRE point of casting a man in the role. I went into the movie SOOOO skeptical...

However, IT WORKED! And his performance was BRILLIANT. Just perfect! I was honestly laughing my head off beyond control. WOW.

So did I think it WOULD work? No. Did it end up working? Yes is an understatement!

You lucky, lucky people who have theaters that did a midnight showing!!!

As for me... I am patiently awaiting Hairspray's arrival in my town tomorrow night!

I am so incredibly excited. I'm catching the HAIRSPRAY premeire and then heading over right after for the HARRY POTTER 7 book premeire! CAN you think of a better night?!

I'm so stoked! Particularly excited about seeing Nikki Blonksky! Everything I've seen of her so far just seems amazing!

Love it! Love it! Love it!

Nikki is FABULOUS and I only hope and pray she gets all of the credit and spotlight she deserves for her performance! (She outperformed all of the big names and deserves to be recognized for it!)

I TOTALLY see the next Jennifer Hudson in her. I mean... EVERYTHING. Big girl, big voice, big energy, big performance, going big places!

What are the chances of her scoring some of the awards JHud did?

re: nicest b'way actor
 Jul 8 2007, 11:21:45 PM
Stephanie J. Block is the SINGLE MOST AMAZINGLY SWEET AND NICE PERSON I have ever met. EVER. Not even just for a stagedoor... I mean like EVER. It was like I was her best friend that she hadn't seen in years and I wouldn't have been suprised if she had invited me for coffee or dinnere right there on the spot.

Loved her.

I am SOOOOOOOOO confused.

Call me an idiot but I have NO IDEA what this is. ???

I absolutely loved the clip to death but was this supposed to be a joke? Or is it serious? Is it part of a soap opera? Why on earth would it be?

Someone care to enlighten me?

re: Anyone hear the Pirate Queen cast recording yet?
 Jul 2 2007, 01:29:53 AM
Thank you for confirming my undying love for Stephanie J. Block. When I saw the show I was blown away and I've never met a nicer actress at the stagedoor.

And now... she's proven herself again with an incredible OBC recording for the show.

It still breaks my heart the show ended as it did. Steph and Hadley Frasier were two of the absolute most talented vocalists on Broadway in my opinion.

I will be visiting the myspace link frequently until I get my hands on the CD its

re: The Most Breathtaking Monolouge Ever....

Wow. I went to his website (just google his name) and the author seems thoroughly fascinating... a man who is a motivational speaker after having lived his entire life with an extremely disfigured facial deformity.

I am going to try to buy some of his work online...

u personally think the entire idea sounds absolutely horrific...

but i must say they have a LOADED cast! i may just go see it for that very reason...

honestly, can a show starring sutton foster flop?

re: The Pirate Queen
 Jun 22 2007, 02:41:13 AM
I could not agree more that it DEFINATELY deserved nominations (if not a win or two) for lighting, set designs, even costuming!

I am also extremely upset it is closing already. I can't even believe it. I saw it on Broadway and loved it. It was fabulous and just as good as the stuff I saw on the Tony's.

Ugh. Sad story.

re: Could Chenoweth play Elle Woods?
 Jun 15 2007, 05:31:33 PM
WOW OH WOW OH WOW. Everyone needs to check out this youtube clip of Kristin making a mockery of Legally Blonde at the Drama Desk Awards.

It is freaking HILARIOUS. I've watched about 12x now and bust a gut every time. And, fyi, i think she could pull it off regardless of age! She was a pretty old Glinda too and that didn't matter! (Glinda is supposed to be a college student after all... entering her freshman year thus even younger than Elle Woods!)

Anyway, CHECK THIS OUT.

re: Some Gay rights leaders say 'Boycott Hairspray Movie'

If I am an atheist I am STILL allowed to play a Christian on stage.

If I am a Christian, I am STILL allowed to play a Muslim on stage.

If I am a scientologist, I am STILL allowed to play a homosexual on stage.

You don't have to agree or disagree with what you're doing on stage. It is called ACTING.

GET OVER IT.
