re: Would you recommend the play Old Acquaintance?
 Aug 14 2007, 04:02:09 PM
I saw the play on Sunday afternoon, and was very underwhelmed. The mostly geriatric audience that was in attendance gave the sets more applause than the production itself. The fact that the play was written and performed in 1940, and hasn't been revived since in almost 70 years, should belie any claims that it's a "classic". As for the two leads, Margaret Colin acts as if she's been tranquilized, and Harriet Harris is silly and hysterical (but not funny).

Mead's OK, but he doesn't hold a candle to Josh Strickland. Now, there's a chest worth buying a ticket for!

I noticed that Deuce is dropping through the floor at 43%! I know the producers don't want to embarrass Angela Lansbury by closing before the scheduled end of the run on 8/19. Are they just going to swallow hard and take their losses for another 5 weeks?

The Paramount on 46th is almost always listed on Priceline. Their rooms that are available at a discount price are VERY TINY, and look outward on an air shaft. My partner and I recently stayed there, and were amused that our double room was about 400 square feet smaller than the prison cell that was giving Paris Hilton claustrophobia.
