re: Scariest moments in a show...
 Jan 9 2009, 10:09:24 PM
I recently saw a production of "Thugs" at a local theatre, and the audience was surrounding the stage, which was just the center of a room[ of the store-front theatre], and there's a part where the power goes out and screams are hard and there are flickers of light and supposedly a murderer going around the building...I was so scared in the dark I was actually screaming in my seat and grabbing my friend next to me. And the actors were no more than 2 feet in front of me, and everyone in the theat

tickets for Xanadu in Chicago just went on sale. Tour will most likely follow the Chicago engagement if all goes well.

I agree with what anmiller said. Actors leaving the SD is like you leaving work, so they may not always be having a good day.

Anyways, I saw the tour, and loved it so much I tried to see it again before it left Chicago. It was really a lot of fun and really energetic.
I have not seen the Broadway company, but have heard that they're also good...maybe not the best there's been but good. (Some in the cast are amazing!) But I think you would enjoy it either way. (Again, I haven't seen

BC/EFA Benefits
 Sep 7 2008, 11:24:03 PM
Hey guys, I'm not sure if this post should go here, or in the Students/Off-topic boards, but what they hey.
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has done their own BC/EFA fundraiser before? I was thinking about doing one at my high school, but have no idea what to do. I was thinking along the lines of bake sale or open mic-type event. I've read the stuff on their website on doing benefits, but still I'm not sure how to do this. So if anyone's done it or know stories of benefits, it'd be g

re: Your thoughts on something Patti said at the stage door...?
 Aug 17 2008, 02:46:26 AM
there's no one way to be a grown-up. maybe Patti isn't like every other grown-up and takes "compliments" differently, instead of saying thank you, she speaks her mind. Different people, different personalities, ways of doing certain things, etc. Just accept that she can say stuff like that...Just cause she's Patti LuPone doesn't mean she won't say things that may make some people cry.
Hilarious Comments...

Not on Broadway, but from Wicked in Chicago yesterday:

Girl 1: What's replacing this when it closes?
Girl 2: I don't know..wait.. Mamma Mia.
Girl 1: The movie?
Girl 2: No wait, Les Mis!
Girl 1: really?
Girl 2: Of course. I heard from a friend.
----
Man: Wait, so it's closing?
Woman: Yep.
Man: So they have to tear the whole theatre down? That's a waste.
So is the show gonna be like closed, no more, ever? That's it?
Woman: It'll probably go t

re: Legally Blonde on Tour Questions

Well all the tours that come through Chicago use Playbill-brand-Playbills. Like actual color playbills. But hat may be different depending on the city.

I did some searching and found that this is the Stage Door address:
555 Commerce Street
http://www.basshall.com/thehalltech.jsp

And the website says it requires artists to use this door, so I guess if you wait you have a good chance of meeting them.

1.Tours usually try to stay as close to the orig. Broadway show as possible, but sometimes they will make some aspects of the show different to be able to accommodate the different houses they're playing [like Phantom's chandelier and candelabras]. Legally Blonde shouldn't need to be changed that much.
2. Yes, Playbills are handed out.
3. I don't know about Fort Worth, but I do know that in other cities actors will use the stage door.
4. Well if you want to meet them, then you

I think the OP is talking about Mary Poppins in Chicago, in which case, no they're not on sale yet, but will be later this year seeing as it opens next March. So maybe late Fall/Winter of this year or early 2009.

Steppenwolf here in Chicago is pretty amazing...August was just one of the many new, great works they produce.

re: Cirque du Soleil Rip Off: Creators Should Sue!

I agree with Scott that Cirque's artistic and financial success are sure to have other companies trying to mimic them[Cirque Dreams, Viaggio, etc]. But if the costumes, design, and overall production are THAT similar to Cirques actual shows, they should definitely look into that..with a legal team...

PS Viaggio...I thought it said "Viagra: The Cirque Show" I was like..what??? haha

re: LB: Gay or European?

Regarding Dance:10 Looks:3, In "What They Did For Love" they talked about how before, when the song was called "Tits and Ass," it just wasn't getting many laughs. So the producer (or director?) decided one night to go sit in the audience, and watching people read the song list in the Playbill, realized why there were few laughs: the audience knew the "punch line" already. So they changed the name of the song to "Dance:10, Looks:3" as to not give away why the song was supposed to be funny. I'm gu

I don't know if you can find this anywhere anymore, but I got it at a local library- "What They Did for Love: The Untold Story Behind the Making of "A Chorus Line."

Sad, happy, heartwarming, heartbreaking, and everything in between.I appreciate ACL a lot more knowing how much of their lives the original cast put into the show. The book basically follows the creation of the show from the first workshop-like gathering to its international "success" with different artists telling their stories.

no..Wicked definitely has the best lyrics ever written. It goes along perfectly with the best book and storyline ever written. i mean, once you look over the bad rhymes and plot holes, I'd say it was robbed at the Tony's!
