re: Senior Project
 Jan 6 2005, 07:47:59 PM
At our college it is called a capstone. It is basically some kind of project that you come up with and entirely produce. It could be being in a play you put up, or directing a play, doing behind the scenes stuff. Whatever it is, it is extensive. It is supposed to show everything you have learned how to do. That is my understanding. It is done your final semester in college. And ours has to be approved a semester in advance. And I graduate in the fall, and haven't come up with any ideas that work
re: Theater in College

I go to a small town collge. And I major in theatre. And yeah I have heard the same thing about it's stupid to major in theatre. But it definitly makes up your mind whether theatre is for you. Some people do it, and could care less about it. But I find that the more I have learned about theatre the more I NEED it. I can't seem to live without it. And going to college I have learned so much. And I get to try out all the aspects of theatre, not just acting. Hope this helps.

Actually I am trying to come with ideas for my Senior project. We are actually doing Godspell for this spring musical. Does anyone have any ideas for a small cast of women. We have more women than men. Can be a couple of em of one. Maybe a straight play?

Sorry, we are from Region 6. We have 3 actors and lots of student designs going. Actually my husband designed the set for ours. Our show was "The Goat or who is Sylvia" by Albee. We got two nominations to go on, but weren't chosen when it came down to it. I love ACTF. Do you guys have state festivals? We do, and I have heard we are some of the only ones that do. They are so much fun, and regionals are fun too. You learn so much. You get to see 8 plays in 4 days where we go. LOL. I love it!
re: Uncommon plays that everyone should read or hear?

Thanks to all. I definitly will look up some of these plays. At our college you normally see alot of Albee, Shepard, and more along these lines. And normally people direct scenes from these plays. Which I think they are great shows, but I just wanted to do something different for a change. I normally lean more towards dramas. I don't know why but I tend to like them better.

I was watching reruns of The West Wing and there she was. I guess she guest starred for awhile. She is such a great performer. She steals every scene she is in.
Uncommon plays that everyone should read or hear?
 Jan 1 2005, 01:40:40 AM
Does anyone know of any uncommon plays or musicals that should be read or heard? In the next semester of school I have to direct a lot of scenes. And I don't want to do anything everybody has seen before over and over again. Thanks for the help. Plus I just want to read more plays...

I actually will be auditioning for Godspell in the spring for college. I rented the movie off Netflix.com. I thought it was pretty good. I like the show. Have listened to all the music. Read as much as I can find about the show. But I am not very good at picking audition pieces for myself. I am a mezzo-soprano. I thought that is normally wasn't a good idea to use songs from the show to audition with?
re: Taking voice lessons
 Aug 18 2004, 01:29:16 AM
yeah I was worried about being rusty at being able to read music, and looking stupid trying to have voice lessons. Singing is something I am very serious about including theatre. And I just didn't know how to get into it.. Thanks..I am trying out for the musical in the spring. Godspell. And I am a mezzo-soprano and I don't have any idea what to even begin looking for to sing. SO sorda nervous about being rusty on reading music.
Taking voice lessons
 Aug 18 2004, 12:51:38 AM
OK so I was always in choir all the way up until college. I used to be able to read music very well, and I haven't done it in so long. I am really rusty...I want to take voice lessons or a voice class..something. But I am not really sure what steps I need to take to do that. And how much I should already know before I take voice lessons or would a voice class be better. I am a theatre major, and want to be able to do musicals and such. Any advice?

re: Being a Theatre Major... stress & venting

I am a theatre major in a small college town, and I love it! I plan to go to graduate school on the east coast somewhere. I love the small classes because the teachers have time to pay attention to everyone. I have heard other experiences at big colleges where they were lost in the crowd. I feel like I have developed alot just from the attention that you get one on one.

Sounds like a wonderful evening! Absolutely love the Divine. I saw her in '99 but didn't get a chance to see her this year. Hopefully when her tour starts up again in the fall I will get to see her. This year it was either see the Divine or go to NYC for the first time. I chose NYC.

 Jul 26 2004, 03:31:47 AM
Hi everyone! I just discovered this site a few days ago, and I am addicted. I am auditioning for Edward Albee's The Goat or Who is Sylvia. I am auditioning for Stevie, and I can't seem to find any monologues that are appropriate for this role. Any suggestions???
