After searching imdb.com and this message board I see nothing, yet a certain fool I know insists he saw them taping when he went to Universal Studios last time. Is there is or is there ain't a WICKED movie in production?

This has been brought up before. There is a Big Wicked Banner/Poster on the side of a building in the Universial Studios lot, but it is advertising the Broadway Musical. In fact I saw it when I did the Universal Backlot tour in March 2004.

Reading that sentence hurt my brain....

It sounds like a song by Louis Jordan
Did "Five Guys Named Moe" travel to Broadway?

There is a movie called Wicked starring Julia Stiles...
But not the musical.
"Is you is, or is you ain't a movie?"
Yeah, I know that song.

Not a movie yet, but I'm definitley hoping for one in the future. That has to be at least 5 years off.
Universal Studios just financially backs the musical. I guess kind of like Disney, without all of the advertising of being a "Disney Musical".
Yeah, at least they didn't call the Broadway show "Universal Studios' Wicked." (Sounds kinda like a theme park ride that way.)
Disney likes to brand their product boldly for all to see.
You can bet money there will be a movie of Wicked some time in the next 10 years.

You're right about the theme park ride hahaha. Come to think of it, I think Disney is the only studio that does that with their movie titles as well. I mean studios advertise that they are a part of a movie, but not as much as Disney.
The movie is definitley coming sometime, the producer, Marc Platt, is also a movie producer (Legally Blonde) and I'm sure he would like to produce a movie version. Especially becuase that's how Wizard of Oz got to the level of fame it's at. The only sad part is that the movie probably won't be played by Idina and Kristin, just becuase Elphaba and Glinda are school girls and may not be able to look that young in 10 or so years. I wish they were in it though, but I'm sure they'll find good cast members.

Wicked was a movie first (well, a screenplay anyway). Universal owns the production rights to the novel, so when Schwartz approached them about turnung it into a musical, they agreed to give it a try.
Fosse76---Yeah, a funny thing happened on the way to the cineplex.
Hello Everyone,
There will be a WICKED movie coming out in like 2007 or 2008. Since Universal do own the rights and they are also producing partners of the stage version. We will just have to wait and see what happens.

If there is a movie it more likely then not will be based directly from the book and not the musical (not to say there will not be a reference or two thrown in).

I would LOVE to see a movie on the book... that would be awesome, the book has so much more in it!
Doesn't Demi Moore own the rights?
I still say Harvey Fierstein would OWN Elphaba. Don't tell me you don't see it.

Why do some people keep saying this when it isn't true. The scribe delegated to do the screenplay wasn't happy with it, and that's when Stephen Schwartz approached. Do you honestly think that Universal would produce a film of Wicked that wasn't based on their "sold-out-everywhere-it-plays" musical?

There was a huge thread on this a while ago.... Reese Witherspoon was quoted saying "I'd love to see a WICKED movie done" (or something to that affect).... which began a ton of rumors (such as Reese herself being Glinda on the bigscreen!) but nobody really had proof... for now everything is JUST rumor! ...go find the post and read it... it was really good and will answer lots of questions.
BTW- I was in Universal Studios (CA) this spring and yes they do have a large poster of WICKED and they do a whole "ta-da" about the Broadway show on their tours... but that is about it! Oh ya... they also have a whole WICKED display in the park (with the "original" green baby and other various props from the show)in a big glass case... it was kinda cool... great to see my fav. show on display for everyone to look at!
also... jovie, do you have any proof that there will be a movie in 07/08 or were you just predicting?
and breedaniel... where on earth did you hear that Demi Moore owned the WICKED rights?

I believe it is in Kristin / Idina's contracts that if there is a Wicked movie, they must play their respective parts.

Reese Witherspoon would be awesome as Glinda? That would definitley bring people to the movie theater...Can she sing though?
And does Demi Moore really have the rights?
Hey Mad4music...I am not predicting, I mean, things may have changed but when I went to Universal Studios the last time, the tour guide I spoke with (outside of the tour itself), said that WICKED was in pre-production and it looks like a 2007-2008 release. No mind you, things do change, but at the time I got that info, it was already in talks.
Then I went back on the tour and all of tour guides were announcing that UNIVERSAL will be producing the film version!
