Stephen King was very happy with the show(i have a brief clip of him being asked what he thinks of it on my carrie the musical dvd and he says "he enjoyed it very much"

Sensational! Reading the lyrics (as opposed to just listening to the songs themselves) totally brings-out the genius in those lyrics! Storytelling at it's finest.

I still find "Do Me a Favor" sheer 'pop' brilliance. If I just hear it once, it's with me all week.

Damn! I wish I had my CARRIE CD on my damn iPod! I don't put any showtunes on my iPod, but CARRIE will be an exception. That's the first thing I'm doing when I get home from work tonight!

True, all of these changes discussed would have certainly made for a stronger show, with better reviews and perhaps a longer run. But would it still be discussed 19 years later as rabidly???

I think the fascination behind carrie is due to the fact that a lot of the show was very good and a lot of people see it as a massive missed opportunity.

Unlike flops such as Legs Diamond,Via Galactica ,Dude,Marilyn etc Carrie was highly entertaining.

The fact the producers didnt ride out the storm angers a lot of people to because a lot of people believe that if the show would have stayed open it would have found an audience(les mis reviews were not good when it opened).

I think it will always be a fascinating show

i had heard all my life about how *terrible* CARRIE was, so i was shocked & suprised this week when i got my recording to find that I LOVE IT!!!!!

& not in an ironic way, i am being completley in earnest!!!!

especially AND EVE WAS WEAK and UNSUSPECTING HEARTS, those two numbers made me cry, i was listening on my headphones at work & i just started sobbing all over my desk....my gosh, i loved them!!!

i watched the vids at youtube & i think that i might not have such a high opinion if i had actually seen it rather than just hearing it so long after the fact, because of course the staging in my imagination is so much different than ...well, it aint Debbie Allen, thats for sure.

& it would break my heart to see it camped up (tho how could one help it on OUT FOR BLOOD?)...i dont want to see Carrie or Margaret White played for laughs...

...& i have to tell you, when i heard the audience clap & cheer as Ms Gardiner tells Criss she's out of the prom....well, it kind of restored my faith in humanity. i wonder if, when Charlotte d'Amboise talks about being booed, if they werent booing her CHARACTER, rather than her or the show.

i'm very impressed with Linzi Hately, i want to reach back in time & rescue her Carrie...& Darlene Love is soooo nurturing!!!
i had always been afraid of Betty Buckley, & never got her appeal, but now, after listening to CARRIE & her portrayal of Margaret White, i get it!!!

so please count me among the proud supporters of CARRIE!!!!

I've seen the clips over and over and kinda fallen for the show though I've had no luck tracking down any of these recordings (back when I was much more into gettign obscure recordings I always saw it on trade lists but assumed I wouldn't like it...)

Charlotte is the top of the pyramid (and why the hell did they even have a pyramid)? I've finally decided that the odd staging/costumes/deisgn was meant to be Carrie's stylized, teenage view of the world aroudn her not reality--hence the body pieces for the popular girls, etc. I think anyway.

And you know... I kinda love Out for Blood though those lyrics are hard to defend--something about the chorus music wise--the kinda menacing 80s pop/dance chords always stick in my head...

Well, Carrie had to crash something (the pyramid)! I suppose playing volleyball (As in the movie) was too hard for them.

Nitpicking -it wasn't chris on top of the pyramid it was an ensemble girl, chris and sue( Charlotte and sally ann) stayed on the floor(for obvious reasons).

I have about 4 dvds of all dif versions of carrie and love this show and watch them all the time , as well as listening to the CDs

The staging was staggeringly bad, the only way Carrie can work is if its set in a realistic time and a real town, scenes like Do Me A Favour(love the song) were staged so badly that no one new where the hell it was taking place.
It was referred to in the program as Night Spot, but all the kids were in leather and dancing in front of giant mirrors (what the hell kind of Night Spot is that S and M bar maybe)

This show will be back its a cash cow, they know it would make a mint if it was revived, it would not supprise me if they did it next year for its 20 year anniversary now pitchford is not stood in the way.

By the way it would be 19 years tomorrow since it began previews on Broadway
