It was an interesting setup to the season. We knew Bauer was heading back to the United States, so the ending was no real surprise. A couple of thoughts...
I was a little disappointed to not see any of Buchanan or Chloe tonight, but I guess their appearance wouldn't have made sense.
Jon Voight was licking his lips tonight, looking at all the scenery he's gonna chew this season, wasn't he?
If the timeline of events on the show is to be believed, than President Taylor, played by Cherry Jones, is a Republican. Back in season 1, David Palmer was a Democrat. His brother Wayne, who became President last season, would also be a Democrat. When he was incapacitated, his Vice-President, Noah Daniels, took over. Daniels is now the outgoing President, who lost re-election to Taylor, which makes her...a Republican?
They're really going to stretch the real-time format even more this season than in past years, huh?

"They're really going to stretch the real-time format even more this season than in past years, huh?"
I don't understand what you mean by that. The multiple stories in real time seemed no more stretched than in past seasons. Personally I was disappointed in the show and found it to be nothing more than 2 hours of excessive exposition meant to do nothing more than whet our appetites and remind us that "24" will start their season soon. Hope the series redeems itself from the past season.

Well there is only room for improvement, after that mess of a 6 Season.
I am really interested to see where they take this next season, Cherry Jones is fantastic so far. Love everything about her, even if she is a (gaps) Republican.
The show has a history of crazy first lady's. I wonder if the first Gent will be nuts? love to see it!!!

Carlos Bernard's return will be interesting, despite its complete implausibility. They're nearly literally raising him from the dude.
I wouldn't be surprised if the "first dude" has some connection to whatever plot Jon Voight's character is running. But yeah, between Sherry Palmer and Martha Logan, the first spouses on this show have been a bit nuts.
Read this morning that Elisha Cuthbert (Kim Bauer) will be making a couple of appearances this year, as well.
And I agree...after the nightmare that was season 6, there is nowhere to go but up.

Posted: 11/24/08 at 8:22amI don't know, I can't stand the character Kim Bauer, so bringing her back doesn't seem like the show is going "Up".

I thought the storyline could have been tighter but I liked the White House transition intrigue. I hope we've not seen the last of Powers Booth. It will be interesting to see if Tony Almeida as a bad guy plays as well as Tony Almeida as a good guy.
My major gripe for the evening (as a D.C. native) was the full, lush green leaves on the Capitol Hill trees....in January.

Bluemoon- agreed about the trees. I love how Jack can drive ANYWHERE in LA in about 15 minutes.
I would have to say Martha Logan and Sherry Palmer were two of my favorate characters.
Sherry was just a crazy mother, she reminds me of "New York" from I Love New York.
Martha Logan is probably the best written character on the show, besides Charles Logan and David Palmer.
I'm still concerned about Tony being the bad guy. His reasons to become bad are just the same as jack. Lost his wife cause of his job, seen hard times. It just shows Tony is a weaker character that Jack. I guess they can give Tony a head shave throw in some scars on the face and hes instantly badass.
I do have one question however; Mary Lynn is the actress who plays Chloe. I watched a few interviews she has done for talk shows, and I wonder how much of her character choice is her really acting. On the interviews she seems to have the same "weirdness" to herself. I bet the writers just knew what she could do and made it bigger, well who really cares. It works and everyone likes her, haha

I agree that Chloe is more of a good and well written character than Mary Lynn Rajskub is a good actress.
I enjoyed it last night, even though the plot was paper thin...

As excited as I am for President Cherry Jones, I also hope we're not done with Powers Boothe. He was such an intriguing character. All of their Presidents, except for Wayne Palmer and his nutcase sister, have been very well written. I do hope, however, we learn Wayne's fate. Did he ever come out of the coma we last saw him in? Obviously he never re-assumed the Presidency, but it would be nice to know if he was dead or alive.
As for Mary Lyn Rajskub, whose character, Chloe, I love on the show, did anyone watch the Larry Sanders Show? What kind of a character did she play there? Was it the same sort of socially inept, yet good at what she does, type of character? I agree in all of her interviews she comes across as very quirky.
President Daniels actually had a fascinating administration of aides and assistant I wish were sticking around. Tom Lennox, Karen Hayes (played by Jayne Atkinson), and that creepy blonde woman he was sleeping with...I hope Cherry Jones assembles a fascinating group of people.
Best line of the episode went to Powers Boothe, during one of his exchanges with Cherry Jones, something to the effect of, "Wait until you've sat in my chair for awhile, then we'll talk."

I thought it was an excellent set-up for the coming season. I can't wait to see more of Cherry Jones and the President.
I wonder where they found that little boy that played, Willy? He was pretty good little actor. There were a couple moments with him that I found myself choking back tears.
January 11th can't get here soon enough for me.

Posted: 11/24/08 at 1:22pmSeason 6 was so awful, I completely forgot anything 24-related might even return. I haven't decided if I want to invest in this season.

Posted: 11/24/08 at 2:41pmI remember reading an article that talked about how the writers sent out a letter to the fans about how they were sorry for messing up with season 6. While I have not seen it yet I do plan to. For those of you that haven't I am sure that you can get it via Itunes or stream it off the fox website.

Posted: 11/24/08 at 3:35pmThe DVD of Season 6 is also out, though I noticed that my local Target had it in the bargain bin yesterday. A more apt place for it would have been the trash bin.

Posted: 11/24/08 at 5:09pmThe saddest part about season 6 was that it started off so promising, what with the nuclear bomb going off; Jack killing Curtis; the return of the Logans...and then..bah!
