Hey guys! I am asking a big favor here. (Actually, I am just putting out feelers to see how it would go over, so I am not asking for anything quite yet.) This is Sarah:
Cutie, huh? Sarah is the little girl of a very good childhood friend. She's three and recovering from Leukemia. Last week her great grandmother passed away and they flew home after the funeral yesterday. Somewhere along the way, she lost her favorite toy, her Nintendo DS. They have contacted the car rental place and the airline, but have heard nothing. She loved that thing and of course, with her medical bills and the unexpected travel expenses, her parents are strapped.
Here's where I need some help. I am pretty strapped myself right now (moving and all), but Nintendo handhelds are really not that expensive. I know that there are some really soft hearts on this board that might be willing to throw a couple of dollars my way to help me get her a new DS and one or two games. Would anyone be willing? I can just do it through Paypal so no amount is too small. I'll make sure she knows who it's from.
Anyone? I understand totally if no one can.
Thanks for reading.
Amber
PM me the email you use for paypal
ETA: Walmart has a bundle pack that comes with a DS, accessories kit, and your choice of 2 games for $189.

I am actually going to order from Toys R' Us. The price is about the same and they have a good deal on games this week. I can get her the two she lost plus another Dora game. I have a $25 gift card I can apply to the total which will help. :) You guys rock.
Just a bump because my paypal is divaamber1@aol.com. I know it's annoying, but I am about 1/2 way to what I can afford to match. I am excited about this. I want to get it back to her asap. Apparently her little heart is broken.
There really are some fantastic people on the boards.

basically you do what you did here, post her story, a picture, what you need for her, and people can put money right into your paypal, sometimes stores or companies will even just donate what's being asked for, especially if it's not something overly extravogent. a DS and a few games is something they would probably donate to her.
Thanks, Pax. It's just such a small dollar item, I am sure some friends will come through. If not, I will just buy it. Those things always seem to work themselves out. :) I don't want to take away from a needier kid.
Talk about a good Valentine's Day - sharing the love.
Thanks Shira!
I wish I had a Nintendo DS for her! And a cure for leukemia.
I do, too. I realize we're 34 now and that used to seem so ancient! Now I barely feel like a grown up and my friend has a kid with cancer. It just doesn't seem possible.
Are you sure it's a Nintendo DS and not a Leapster? A DS seems like an extravagent and hard to use toy for a 3 year old. I didn't get my son one until he was 6.
Definitely a DS. Hers was blue, but she wanted a green one. I am trying to get her a very cool lime green one. I think she's about to turn 4. The only games she had were My Little Pony and Dora. She's a brilliant little girl. Her mom and I met in an advanced student program. I think she takes after her mom. :)
Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the folks on this board, I reached my goal. You guys are the best. Sarah will be thrilled!
Wow, that's awesome. YAY!
Just an update! Sarah wanted a green DS. Lime green is her favorite color. Nintendo didn't have that color available any time except last spring, so Sarah settled for blue. I was just able to get a lime green DS on eBay (it's legit and not a Hong Kong copy!) I also have enough left to replace the games she lost and get her at least two more preschool games and probably a stuffed animal! Thank you again for all of your help!
Yay! I'm so happy!
Great!
Me, too! Little missy is getting the DS, two Dora games, a My Little Pony game, a baby Petz game, a little green purse with a blue flower that's made to hold a DS and a green stylus with a monkey on it. I mean, who could ask for more?
