AMERICAN IDOL

Ha, I saw a very Osmond-filled yet Donnyless production of Joseph several years ago in Houston. A non-Donny Osmond was Joseph and I think a couple were also some of the brothers, and there were also severals Osmonds in the children's chorus (and Jodi Benson as the narrator). I wonder if that guy was one of them?
Bikini Girl will be cut in the first round, as will that girl who tried to sing off with the new judge. Barracuda girl and blind guy are likely finalists at this point.

"Bikini Girl will be cut in the first round, as will that girl who tried to sing off with the new judge."
I think that's one and the same girl, no?
Anyway, I like the new judge. She knows what she's talking about, not afraid to say it, and already kind of overtook Paula already.
I agree that Emily and Scott should stay on for a long time.

Scott may not have been the best ever, but he does usually have the piano also, and I think (well maybe I just hope) that singers who also play the it are getting more popular (Ben Folds and Eli, a finalist on America's Got Talent).
I wouldn't completely write him off until we see him with his instrument

Lol, Jane, I think you're right.
There was another very mediocre girl they put through...the chipper one. That's the other one I was thinking about.

After several failed attempts at watching episodes and trying to generate some interest in the show, I finally decided to give it a fair shot and start from the beginning. I'm really going to try and get through a season and hopefully enjoy it, though Kara seems to be the only person involved whose opinions or thoughts I care to hear.
After this first episode, my two favorites were Emily and the girl with the platinum blonde hair and the husky voice. A couple of others were pretty good, but I get easily tired of those who only regurgitate emotionless Mariah Carey riffing. If there's no heart and soul in the singing...Bikini Girl...then there is no reason to put them through at all.

I'd love it if Paula and Kara (whom I like as well, for the record) were to put through some mediocre guy just because he has a huge bulge.
Though since Simon has the tie-breaking vote, I imagine that won't happen.

Posted: 1/14/09 at 12:14pmReg, I for one, would love to see some hawt guy in a bathing suit try out and Kara and Paula put him through.
re: AMERICAN IDOL#83
Posted: 1/14/09 at 12:20pmIt's nice to see that they haven't abandoned their good old homophobic ways, too, with the adolescent "out of the closet" jokes with the mold-breathing guy.

"Did Ryan just try to high-five a blind guy?"
I thought the same thing! I couldn't stop laughing! I can't stand Ryan.

It seemed last night that even though there were 4 judges you still only needed 2 out of 4 instead of 3 our of 4 to say yes to be put through.
They still only put through 27 people. Phoenix must have been a bust.
re: AMERICAN IDOL#86
Posted: 1/14/09 at 1:25pmI wasn't crazy about any of the people tonight...hopefully there will be a favorite tonight. I liked that buff looking guy-does anyone know what his name was? I also liked that dorky guy. Although he didn't have the best voice, he was such an adorable geek. Not crazy for any of the girls...
re: AMERICAN IDOL#87
Posted: 1/14/09 at 1:42pmI liked the mold guy. He had such a droll sense of humor it made me laugh.

I liked the gorgeous blond guy who was helping the blind guy into and out of the room (the blond leading the blind, I guess you'd say).
Were they brothers, do you think?

I love that Kara said, "Alright, bitch. I'm gonna show you."
So my ears weren't playing tricks on me and she did actually say 'bitch'. I thought that was hysterical.
I can see how it'd come off as awkward, but I think pink cowgirl out-did bikini girl in that sense. What was with giving Kara a book full of songs and then taking it back at the end? I mean, I understand if you made someone a scrapbook or some other form of gift...

re: AMERICAN IDOL#91
Posted: 1/14/09 at 2:47pmI think she was just showing what a dedicated songwriter she is. I think that was her "songwriting book," not something actually for Kara.

It was awkward when Seacrest went to high five the blind guy, but Fox should have edited that out.
For me, the highlight of then entire evening was when they showed Archuleta's tween fans watching last year's finale, devastated when Cook's name was announced.
re: AMERICAN IDOL#93
Posted: 1/14/09 at 2:54pmThat's fine, but she didn't even sing an original song. Maybe if she had, it would have made more sense to me. However, she didn't try to kiss Ryan, so perhaps Bikini Girl has her beat afterall.

And at least she wore actual clothing. Even though it was ugly.

Yes, David Osmond played Joseph in that production. Four of his brothers were some of "Joseph's brothers". And his two youngest brothers were in the children's chorus. The version I saw in Milwalkee, featured Debbie Gibson as the narrator. They did an excellent job. I remember they all came out to the lobby to sign autographs and take pictures, after the show. This was around 1998, I believe.
