Posted: 3/14/09 at 12:29amI think he's perfect American Idol material. But how the hell did he end up in Wicked?

Posted: 3/14/09 at 3:02amWhat I don't understand is how he was just the understudy Fiyero. With a voice like that? I don't get it. He should have been the main Fiyero.

*sigh*
I never learn.
These people whose names I don't recognize, in connection with things I have no interest in . . . and yet, because they're mentioned here, I go and 'search'.
And then I'm sorry I did.
Whatever that is or hopes to be has nothing to do with what I find entertaining or call talent.
Again, I'm 'out of the loop'.

He's freaking INCREDIBLE
I can definitely understand if he's not everyone's taste musically, but I just love him. He legitimately has one of the best voices I've ever heard.
And in fact I'm currently blasting his Black or White studio recording and dancing around the room with my mom! :P
(Oh and for the record, if anyone thinks that he's only capable of doing the "screamer rock" thing:

A song he recorded as a demo for a show a while back. I think it's absolutely flawless. As much as he can definitely DO the pop/glam rock music, I personally think it's kind of a shame he probably will be away from Broadway/musical theater for at least a while. Because his voice really is soooo gorgeous and amazing)

Plastic is a good word.
I think he's very talented...aside from the Axl Rose screeching...and among this group, he's definitely top 5, but there's something rather mechanical and calculated about him.
And beyond that, both the promo pictures and some angles on TV make him look like she should be on "Rupaul's Drag Race," the picture above notwithstanding. Tone down the makeup.

^I'm sure he'll start toning it down :) He's mentioned himself that he doesn't intend to be belting his lungs out every single performance. I think that he was probably just trying to really establish the kind of artist he intends to be- and that's in the "glam rock" genre. I have faith that within the next couple of weeks we'll start seeing him do some softer stuff that shows off just how versatile he is.
In fact, I'm hoping he'll do a nice softer ballad for this upcoming country week! Country's not so much his genre (something he said himself), so it seems like it'd be a nice week to kind of mix it up a bit, and show the softer, more gorgeous tone of his voice.

I can't stop watching his performance of "I Make You Crazy". That is really fun.
#15re: Adam Lambert (AI)
Posted: 3/16/09 at 2:45amI just watched some of his performances for the first time. I have to side with Q. He's got a great voice, sure, but I've never been a fan of vocal pyrotechnics without the soul and emotions to back it up.

At least Axl has great tone when he sings and/or screams!! Also Axls screaming is usually for a good reason in the song and not just because he can.
Lambert is a bad wannabe, and thats it.

Wow, Axl Rose is one of the few all time REAL rockers. Don't even mention the two in the same post! lol! Axl's in a class occupied by very few. Hmm, some of them are Steven Tyler and Mick Jagger. Adam Lambert? I don't think so.

^Well... don't get me wrong, I am definitely NOT saying that Adam is anywhere near the status of Axl Rose, Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, etc. over all. Obviously they're legends who people will know about for years and years to come, and obviously Adam is nowhere near that status yet.
BUT, comparing pure technical vocal ability? Adam's got more of it than them. None of those guys could do some of the things he can do with his voice I don't think. Now they very well may have more taste in how they use their voices (though I personally think that Adam's getting a lot better with that- I thought Black or White was VERY well thought out in terms of where he got grittier and louder with it, and where he backed of), but the point is, he IS still very much comparable to them in terms of vocal ability alone :) Over all, though, I'd agree that anyone who compares him to all those huge music legends is just silly. And this is coming from someone who ADORES him and is consistently floored by his talent! But, you know, we've still only seen TWO performances of his on Idol. Give him at LEAST a few years to prove himself in the actual music industry before putting him up there in "legendary" status :P
All that said, in terms of the whole taste thing, and the lack of substance/emotional connection to songs:
Like I said, I feel like Black or White was a HUGE step in the right direction for him in that sense. I feel like, if you really watch it closely, paying attention to which sections he chose to emphasize and which he chose to approach more playfully, they were all very deliberate and went right along with the message of the song. Just little things like the fact that he put so much emphasis on the line "I told them about equality, and it's true you're either wrong or you're right". And there are tons of other little examples like that. It was a REALLY smart performance. And, the original Black or White being one of my favorite songs ever, it took me some time to get used to what he did with it. The first time I watched, I'll admit I was a little "...:/" (and again, this is coming from someone who's been rooting for Adam as my favorite from day 1). But then by the 3rd or so viewing, I realized that it was amazing because he truly GOT the song, and brought things out in it I'd NEVER noticed in the original version.
And for further evidence that he IS absolutely capable of truly backing vocals with emotional and understanding:

So yeah, there are times when he goes a little overboard, and times when he nails it. It's kind of a hit or miss so far it seems :) But I have faith that he'll only grow in this area as the competition continues, much like Cook did last year!

Oh and also, I agree about the hair. I think he's gorgeous either way, but I mean..
come on. The above is SO loverly because he doesn't have hair hanging over his face <3
But, you know, he has his own style, and if that's how he's most comfortable, more power to him! I just personally find him to be even more of a cutie pie with the hair pulled back hehe

Serously? Well, each to his own, as the saying goes...
I've only seen Adam Lambert sing as many times as he's sung on AI. So far, I haven't been convinced he's anything remarkable and especially not anywhere near the icons of rock and roll.
