Advice for transferring?

Hey fellow students -
As a sophomore I've finally decided to transfer colleges for the spring semester. I love my current college (St. Norbert College), but since I've decided to double major in Graphic Desgin and Theater I need a school with a better, more developed theater program. I'll be going to UW-Milwaukee which has a real nice Theater and Art department.
So I guess my question is have any of you transferred colleges? Was it a difficult change/hard to catch up? (I haven't taken any Theater classes yet so I'm behind, so to speak).

Hi..I know that transfering can seem like a hard thing to do, but have you looked at Oklahoma City University! We have a large theater department with numerous shows each semester. And we recently became partners with the prestigious Oklahoma Children's Theater company and will be co-presenting and working on all their productions. Feel free to email me with any questions!

OCU, I think she already stated that she's going to transfer to UW-Milwaukee.
Wicked, I haven't transferred but I know a few people who have. It's more difficult to come in as a transfer than as a freshman but it's still possible to fit in and make friends. It just takes a little more effort on your part to make sure it happens. :) As for classes, you'll probably have to start out in freshman classes for theatre. It could be a little difficult to double major in both those areas if you have yet to take any theatre classes. I know at most schools, you probably wouldn't be able to do this without starting over in the theatre classes and that is difficult to complete in less than four years. Hopefully, your academic advisor at your new school will be able to help you figure that out. Good luck!

Posted: 10/10/05 at 9:58pmI will tell you, I transferred twice. I went from being a Musical Theatre major in a B.F.A. program to being a vocal major in an associates program. I had only generals transfer, and now I'm transferring back after getting my associates degree. All that will transfer is my general classes, maybe some music credits that are similar to the ones required. I will be able to graduate from the theatre program in 3 years, rather than 4 because my associates will elimate the need for any generals. Otherwise it would have taken me four. The only advice I can give you is to save your syllabi, they may need them to grant credit. You just have to talk to a transfer specialist, most schools have them. Best of luck to you.

Posted: 10/11/05 at 2:28amThanks for the advice. I figured I had a lot of work ahead of me, but 'tis ok. I'm talking to people in the Art and Theater departments at the end of the month. Hopefully things will take off from there.

Posted: 10/11/05 at 10:42amI transfered schools. The only weird thing for me was that I became friends with more of the younger students. Additionally, though I was in more advanced classes, in the audition pool, I was basically the same as an incoming Freshman.

So, OCU, are you really only a student at OCU or are you something else?
