I've got some of her recordings and I was wondering if it's a coincidence or if she sometimes intentionally tried to sound like Marlene Dietrich.
Well shoot.
I thought this thread might bring MasterLcZ back.
It should have.

Miss Alice Faye sings a slightly incomprehensible "Mame."

With the help of handsome John Payne and the Inkspots, she elevates a little ditty called "Where You Are" to almost-art.

Ah, here it is: My all-time favorite Alice Faye song: "No Love, Nothing," from the wartime Busby Berkeley/Carmen Miranda/Benny Goodman musical "The Gang's All Here."

Judy Garland recorded this song during WW2.
I love the Judy version.
Alice sounds very much like Marlene when she sings "Roses in December".
Of course I love Judy's version better. But Alice Faye is one of the rare actresses who connected with audiences on a deep emotional level--without seeing to be be emotionally troubled herself.
A ridiculous generalization, I admit, but kind of true. At any rate, I have loved Alice Faye since I was about 13 or 14...which is a loooooong time ago!
I love that clip because I love most of the music that was so special during World War II. That song reminded me of my favorite Andrews Sisters song from this period - "I Can Dream, Can't I?". Unfortunately I wasn't able to find a video clip of them singing it, but I did find one of a second favorite - "Apple Blossom Time".

Forgive you?
I love The Andrews Sisters.
They fit right in!
All for the sum
of a quarter
life is peachy.
You can become
Alice Faye
or Don Ameche.
I've got this book.
I love her best in Alexander's Ragtime Band, and I don't think she sounds like Dietrich at all.
Maybe on certain material, but not "in general."
Dietrich had a more unique voice, but Faye had a better voice.
I don't think she normally does either but listen to "Roses in December" and then tell me what you think.
