Hi all, just wondering if any of you have experienced this, as well.

Whenever I have a glass of red wine, I get the oddest pain in my jaw - a tingling, pins-and-needles feeling for a few minutes before it disappears.

Through some research, I've found that it's some kind of sulfite or tannin allergy. And I've also discovered a message board thread devoted to people who suffer from the same problem, but there's no professional diagnosis.

Do any of you know what I'm talking about? Is there a name for this problem?

It's lock-jaw.

That is a very common allergy. You are probably allergic.
You should switch to Pinot Noir as it has the least amount of sulfites. You probably need to go to an allergy doctor and be tested.

I am allergic to white wine. Strange but true.

Not so strange. I'm allergic to all alcohol, and most severely, to wines. All wines. I can't take more than one sip without immediately getting nauseous and dizzy, headachy.

I'm so sorry, Jane! I don't know what I'd do if I were allergic to alcohol. Well, most likely crack, but other than that, I don't know what I'd do!

thanks, Scott. Actually, it's ok with me this late in life. (I sound like I have one foot in the grave!). I had my fun, believe me-I did it all in my youth! ALL.

Hahah, that's good to hear. So did you develop this allergy later in life, or only discover it after the "ALL" period?

WEll, I never felt good after drinking alcohol, but when I was young, I went with it anyway because I wanted the high. I always suffered when I tried to get to sleep, and the next day. Later in life, I decided it just wasn't worth it, and the older I got, the sooner I felt sick. Now it takes one sip. It's okay with me. I'm better off!

I also have a wine allergy. Frankly, it has saved me from many pretentious conversations.
Organic wines are reduced or tanin free and you may enjoy them.

Devastating!
