Sorry if this is old news. I visited Amazon.com today and haven't been to the website in over a year. The front page has an announcement about a free digital library of books you can rent for Kindle owners.
Badass.
I've been contemplating a kindle for a while now. I tested one the other day and felt like I had dementia. Sticking to an old fashioned paper book lol.

I love my Kindle. Sometimes I do miss the feel of a real book, but I love being able to cart a zillion books around with me now.
The Amazon deal is pretty decent, but you have to have Amazon Prime. I do, because I think Prime is a good deal in and of itself. I haven't tried the book lending thing yet, mainly because I already have a backlog of books on my Kindle. The only thing I don't like about it is that you can only check out one book a month, but that's just because I read fast.
A lot of libraries are also allowing you to check out books for Kindles and e-readers. I haven't tried that either, though (again with the backlog of books I already have on the Kindle).

I saw that notice for the first time yesterday as well. I absolutely love my Kindle, this just tops it off. As soon as I can spare the money, I'm absolutely joining Prime.
Did not know about this. Very cool. Might be a good reason to finally get a Prime membership.
It should be noted (and this diminishes the value of the offer) that the free rentals you get after paying $79 for Prime are limited to one rental per month.
A much more valuable addition to the world of Kindle is the fact that you can now borrow books from libraries. Here in NYC there are currently over 15,000 Kindle titles, and you can have up to 12 loans at a time.
