50 live chickens found running through Philly high school
9:36 AM EST, February 11, 2008
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Monday mornings are hard enough. Imagine finding 50 chickens running loose through your local school.
It happened Monday at Northeast High School in Philadelphia.
A school district spokesman says workers arriving about 5:30 a.m. to open the building for the day found more than 50 live chickens running around the hallways.
The floors were covered with chicken feed and chicken waste.
Officials called in a farmer to help round up and remove the birds.
Most students were sent home for the day so that crews could begin the cleanup. Special education students and staff were told to report to the Woodrow Wilson Middle School.
Police are checking surveillance tapes to see if they can determine who broke into the school and released the birds.

Chickens are my favorite animal.
I would have loved seeing that!

Posted: 2/11/08 at 10:07pmSeveral kids in my high school graduating class (2003) decided to release a skunk in the school on the last day. I was in a program where I shadowed an elementary music teacher so I luckily didn't have to endure the stench.

I think somebody wanted a long weekend!
This is the time of year everyone gets cabin fever. We've been having a rush of bomb threats...and now some sort of internet rumor about problems on Feb. 29th are causing mayhem in our district (Interestingly, that's a Friday......another long weekend???)
I just thought this was hysterical! Can you imagine coming into any public building and finding 50 chickens walking the hallways???? Very imaginative...I'll give them that!

Posted: 2/11/08 at 11:17pmWhen my dad was in high school the seniors took a cow up the stairs to the second floor of the high school. You can get a cow to go up stairs, but there is no convincing a cow to go back down. Our area was mostly a farm community then. Now it is basically a suburb of Indianapolis.

Posted: 2/11/08 at 11:23pmIn my high school it was pretty common to let out random things as senior pranks. There was the year of the crickets, the year of the chickens and ducks, and the year of the chickens, crickets and mice...all at once. It never got us out of class. It just got people kicked out of the cafeteria during their lunch period, more mice roaming the school, a cricket infestation, and some dead or injured chickens.

Posted: 2/12/08 at 1:40amI feel like I have heard of students pulling pranks like that. (ie chickens or pigs being free in the high school) it's a funny idea.

Senior pranks were rife during my freshman year. They unleashed a barrage of bouncy balls into the commons from the first floor (imagine hundreds of bouncy balls ricocheting around a two-story space...right after the homecoming assembly as we were going back to class), there were several streakers and in an extremely cruel move, someone got hold of a piglet, shaved it and stuck pins in it and let it loose.
Fortunately, in that case the jerks were suspended and a teacher took the piglet in and he went on to live a happy, prank-free life on one of her farms.

Posted: 2/12/08 at 1:22pmThe class of 2007 took every desk from every class i nthe school and filled up the main lobby by duct-taping all of the desks together. The faculty would have let it go, but there was soem big assembly that day, so they had to clean it up before classes started. Too bad!
