Posted: 1/2/06 at 9:14pmNo one's going to watch it. It's a shame, because it's a very smart, very funny show, but it's never going to catch on or be worth Fox's time to keep it on. They've given it two and a half seasons. That's more than other, higher rated shows get.

I read that ABC might be interested in picking it up.
I watched it for a bit, but it just seemed so smug with its own coolness.
BTW - broadcast television is terrible. I had not realized my USA, TNT, TBC and Comedey Central addiction until my DirecTV went out.

Okay...I give up! I'll watch it!
I've never seen an episode, but everyone goes on and on about it, so I'll watch the two episodes that are coming on tonight.
Geez, it's like evangelicals at the mall.

While I love you for trying Arrested Development, there's a good chance that a lot of tonights episode might be lost on you if you're not up to date about the shaky fate of Arrested Development and all of us devoted fans who sign on-line petitions by the thousands(like the one listed in my sig *wink, wink*). Not to mention all of the tricks that many shows try to use for more ratings. Plus, the second episode is a rerun that many of us fans aren't too entusiastic about (the-op.com, an Arrested Development fan site, has it ranked as the worst episode). It still has some very good stuff, but what you SHOULD do is rent the first disc of season one of Arrested Development. At least watch the first three episodes: Pilot, Top Banana, and Bringing Up Buster. If you don't like it after those, then it's probably not for you. That said, if you have a Nielson box, please keep watching it anyway.
Michael: I can't believe it's come to begging.
Narrator: Please tell your friends to watch this show.

The above instructions go to you, too, YouWantitWhen????
When the reviews first came out, they were worried about it being called the smartest thing on TV, because they thought that that might put people off. It's not so smart that most of America can't get it, but you do have to listen when you watch it - you can't just watch it casually. It's like a Sondheim musical. You do have to pay a bit of attention to details, but the rewards are much greater than watching some generic reality show (or Andrew Llyod Webber).

I know, but if I was the son I would have let the business fail and those fools fend for themselves.
I just never got into it. I have lots of friends that adore it show.

I PRAY that it will get picked up again. This is THE best cast to ever grace a television set.

Posted: 1/3/06 at 1:37amI love how this whole episode was just a slap in the face to Fox and they're too stupid to realize it.

Posted: 1/3/06 at 1:53amIt was funny, but it wasn't exactly subtle. I'm pretty sure they weren't pulling the wool over anybody's eyes at Fox.
#21re: Andy Richter, hot ham water and a WICKED reference
Posted: 1/3/06 at 2:17amIt wasn't subtle and that's why I said that. A more intelligent network wouldn't even let an episode that so blatantly insults them air in the first place.

I don't see why Fox should take a beating here. They kept the show on for two and a half seasons. I think they've done their part. It's not the network's fault that most of America does not want to watch this show.
Indeed, perhaps the fact that it did air is a testament to Fox's commitment to the show. What more could they do? Break into people's homes and force them to watch it?

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on Fox's total innocence. They've kept it, yes, but they've also moved it to a different time slot every single season and marketed it horribly (like pimping out guest stars like it's the next Will and Grace). It's also one of the few critical successes on Fox in years and they still prefer to make more shows which appeal to the lowest common denominator (like Pamela Anderson's big boobs and drunken hicks) instead of attempting to improve their overall status. Three years ago, ABC had the worst ratings of any major network. Look what a few good quality shows have done for them.
Bringing back Family Guy was the final straw for me. It was just pathetic that they didn't realize their mistake until years after the fact, and the syndicated episodes and DVDs finally made it a ratings hit. Suddenly, Fox acted like they were gods for bringing it back, without every acknowledging that it was their fault it was cancelled in the first place.
But Celebrity Boxing, that's obviously more worthy of airtime.

Is that back? I loved that.
Your points are well taken, orangeskittles. I'm not marketing exec, so I can't suggest what they might have done to help out more at Fox. I still maintain they tried to do right by it, but I will admit there's plenty of validity to what you've said. It just never struck me as a show that would (could?) have that much commercial success to begin with.
