Anne Hathaway, Steve Carell 'Get Smart'

ANNE HATHAWAY will star opposite STEVE CARELL in a big screen remake of the '60s TV comedy, 'Get Smart.'

Variety reports the actress will play the role of doting Agent 99, originated on the small screen by BARBARA FELDON, with Carell playing the role of bumbling secret agent Maxwell Smart that DON ADAMS created for the classic sitcom.

The duo act as secret agents who are assigned to stop enemy agency KAOS from taking over the world.

'50 First Dates' director PETER SEGAL will helm the project, set for 2008 release. Filming for the movie begins in March.

Ah well. I guess if anyone has a chance of capturing the brilliance of Don Adams, it's Steve Carrell. At least they didn't cast Will Ferrell.

This article doesn't answer the most important question of all--who will play Zigfried?

Seriously though, IMO Hathaway is not sexy enough. Barbara Feldon oozed 1960s sexiness.

As much as it pains me to say it, I can see Lindsay Lohan being a good 99. She has that same kind of sultry look in her eyes that Barbara Feldon always had.

there is no well known young actress today with barbara's sophistication and sexiness. they're all adolescent.

They should have gone with Parker Posey or Lara Flynn Boyle or Sherilyn Fenn or Maggie Gyllenhaal or anyone with an ounce of sexiness. Anne Hathaway is too "girl next door".

This was my favorite show to watch on Nick at Nite as a child. Here's hoping they don't take this great show and make it into a horrible film, ala "Bewitched" "The Beverly Hillbillies", etc.

Barbara Feldon was pretty much the only thing about the original show that I liked.
