The film is supposed to be really dark. The film's Joker is supposed to be alot darker than Nicholson's.

They'll probably just do any re-shoots needed with that man who pretended to be Alice Brady in the '30s. No one will ever know.
And if you thought it was gonna be "dark" before, you won't even be able to see it now.
...because it's ALL about protecting the reborn franchise.
BOY, am I in a mood now... because of the media's gossipy and clumsy handling of his death, and this Namo thread that I have no doubt taps into many a Hollywood sentiment right now.

Because they won't have an actual ending for their movie, since nobody knows how to write one anymore... and it'll be a great way to leave the audience feeling stunned.

Did he finish filming it? I really don't know. I tried searching for it but I can't find whether he did or not, or I was not looking hard enough.
It is just shocking, I was really looking forward to see him as the Joker. He was an amazing actor... hay... so sad.
My condolences go out to Heath's family, friends and the whole cast and crew of The Dark Knight.
