I have an odd question. Odd in that I could possibly find this information somewhere else, but for some reason I have not been able to.

I know you can earn your BFA in Musical Theatre and theatre studies, etc... Can you earn any type of Masters Degree?

I mean, Denzel Washington? Gun to my head..of course.

thank you thank you!!

Do many actors go for their Masters? Is it better to have a Masters or does it honestly not matter in the world of theatre the way it does in other businesses?

Success in the entertainment industry is really based on luck and being in the right place at the right time more than anything! Talent comes into play but truly it doesn't count that highly when you get down to it.

It all depends on you. If you want to perform classical pieces primarily, then I would suggest getting an MFA in Acting because it will give you great technique in that area of acting. For Musical Theatre you really don't have to have an MFA, probably why there are so few MT MFA programs to begin with. Heck you technically don't have to get any degree to be a successful perfomer, some people just have it naturally. Most performers that get MFAs do so so that they have the option of teaching at the university level in the future.

I feel an MFA is a big commitment for any actor because you are taking so many years out of the business just to develop your craft more. Realistically I think if you have a BFA in either Musical Theatre or Acting you shouldn't need to get an MFA since a BFA prepares you for the business already. You still could go for it if you wanted, you can't deny that any type of education is great.
