Posted: 4/19/06 at 8:08pmI'm a baritone.
#12re: Baritones Unite!
Posted: 4/19/06 at 9:53pmI've always been tenorish, but with my range I guess I'm a Bari-tenor. Favorite role (only baritone role) is Dauntless in Once Upon a Mattress.

Posted: 4/19/06 at 9:58pmUm... actually most of the roles I've played have been transposed a tiny bit (taboo, I know). But one of the only real baritone roles that I've played and actually really enjoyed was Josh in "Big". Not the best show, but a fun role!

Posted: 4/19/06 at 11:11pmWhat is the range of a baritone? I dont know if I am a baritone or Tenor II...

Baritone is more the timbre of the voice. Are you rich and darker or a bit lighter? The latter of the two would be Tenor 2
For me my favorite baritone singing role would have to be The Pirate King in "Pirates of Penzance"

Posted: 4/19/06 at 11:16pmugh... I don't really know.. I am leaning more toward tenor II though.. Do baritones and tenor IIs basically have the same range? How high can a baritone sing?
#18re: Baritones Unite!
Posted: 4/19/06 at 11:31pmI sing up to a Bb, but I'm still a baritone because I have a heavier and darker sound...

Posted: 4/21/06 at 1:43pmWell I'm a baritone with a High Bb but CERTAINLY NO TENOR thank you very much so I guess that makes me a baritenor or a "lyric baritone". Anyway it has Baritone in it, so it counts. ha!

clarifying --
tenor II is a CHORAL distinction. on your resume, you're never going to write JOHN SMITH - TENOR II. many tenor II/bass I's in a chorus will be baritones, and conductors will often call these parts "baritones" in rehearsal.
this is like the alto-mezzo thing for girls. if you sing alto in a chorus, you're probably a mezzo. there are so few contraltos very few women are "true" altos (as in the derivation from contralto)
baritones have a rich, lyrical quality DUE TO the situation of their range. most baritones could/do sing bass (whether I or II) in a choral situation, but would not be called "basso" on stage (the operatic term for bass).

I'm neither a Baritone nor a Male, but I'm playing Pontius Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar! That's a part for a Baritone! Can I be an honorary member of the Baritones Unite club?!?!
