According to his father, Andrew Koenig who played Mike's friend Boner on Growing Pains, has gone missing.

This thread title was very confusing to me, having not seen Growing Pains.
I hope he is found. Thoughts out to his family.

He was Mike's goofy friend.
He apparently has been suffering from depression. I hope they find him safe and sound.

An unfortunate thread title, considering the possible seriousness of the circumstances.
Never saw the show he was on, but I'm surprised the article doesn't mention that his father is the Walter Koenig of the original Star Trek (Chekov). The Koenigs are flying to Canada to try to find their son.
Here's hoping he's all right and just lying low.

Boner was his name on the show. If the thread had been titled "Andrew Koeing Missing" I don't think many people would have known who it was. But by saying "Boner from Growing Pains" everyone from my generation knew who it was immeditately.

Hah, Joe. That's what I thought when I first saw this.
But all kidding aside, I do hope he's okay!

I think that if the thread had been titled "Andrew Koenig from Growing Pains Missing", the point would have gotten across just as well to those of you that followed that show. Using "Boner" "Growing" and "Missing" in the title may get the thread more hits, but it just struck me as an unfortunate way to put it, leading to jokes about what is, at best, a story about a family's distress, and at worst, the poor guy's suicide.
Just an observation I made while providing another link - and JMO. From that link:
"The actor son of "Star Trek" veteran Walter Koenig has disappeared while visiting friends in Canada, and family pleaded on Sunday for information on his whereabouts to be given to the Vancouver police."
""He's been depressed," his father, who has a degree in psychology, told local ABC television station KABC. "He's trying to get ahead in this business and he's been working at it a long time."
I also didn't know that Walter Koenig had a degree in psychology.

No -- so I guess it wasn't that great of a publicity stunt.
This doesn't sound like one, and hope he's ok. (Kirk Cameron, on the other hand, can feel free to get lost)

I can't believe the lack of information about this.
I hope he's found alive and well.

I read the title exactly the way it was intended.
the actor who played the character Boner, from Growing Pains, is Missing.
Nothing more than that.
Anyway, this is very sad, and I do hope that's found alive and well.

"I read the title exactly the way it was intended.
'the actor who played the character Boner, from Growing Pains, is Missing.'
Nothing more than that."
But it didn't say that. It didn't mention the actor's name, just the character's."Boner" is not missing. Andrew Koenig is.
All I said was it was an unfortunate title. Not knowing the show, and as a result, the character either, I never opened the thread, figuring it was just another silly off-topic thread until I saw the NYTimes article, and then it made sense.
"I can't believe the lack of information about this."
He's really not all that well known, tazbar, nor really is his father, anymore. Hence, not all that newsworthy. The Koenigs received a letter from their son that worried them enough that they left for Canada today to join the search. They have opted to keep the contents of the letter private. Also, I think that there's no new news because, well, there's no new news to share.

I think that if the thread had been titled "Andrew Koenig from Growing Pains Missing", the point would have gotten across just as well to those of you that followed that show.
I saw every episode in syndication and didn't know the actor's name before this thread. He was a minor character who was only on in the early seasons. It's not Kurt Cameron or Tracy Gold or Alan Thicke. Had it said "Andrew Koenig from Growing Pains Missing", I wouldn't have recognized him. If you're going to blame anyone for the poor taste, blame the writers for giving the character such a ridiculous name.
Wanting life but never knowing how
#21Boner from Growing Pains Missing
Posted: 2/23/10 at 11:13pmWell Boner's actual name was Richard Stabbone. Mike Seaver gave him the nickname as a little kid because Richie was a sissy name or something to that effect. Been years since I saw an episode of that show. But on-topic, honestly I would have not recognized who it was by his real name. Rob Reiner once said if he ever won something like the Nobel Prize the headline would be 'Meathead Wins Nobel'. It is just the curse of being associated with a character. I really do not remember Boner aside from his name except that he once dated Carol and he joined the Marines.

I think Beaver Cleaver is pretty far up there, in those terms.
"If you're going to blame anyone for the poor taste, blame the writers for giving the character such a ridiculous name."
I haven't blamed anyone for anything. I just made an observation. At least three other people on this thread had no idea what the character's name was either, and at least one has said their first thought was sexual in nature until they opened the thread.
"I saw every episode in syndication and didn't know the actor's name before this thread."
So even though you don't recognize the actor's name, you remember the show's name, and would probably have opened the thread on that basis. I found using the character's name an unfortunate choice. So what? I'm not suggesting the thread be removed, or retitled. It's just an opinion.
Reminds me a little of when Andy Hallet, best known for his role on Angel, died far too young. The only pictures in all the mags and papers were of him in his character's outlandish make-up in the role, leaving him as a person unrecognizable. I felt it diminished his death and was a little disrespectful. Again, JMO, and nothing to get worked up about.
I do hope Andrew has a happier ending.
