Nasty George On Madonna.
In 1982, two unique superstars debuted. Madonna was performing songs at club gis while Boy George caused a worldwide sensation with Culture Club. Both divas have survived to this day, mostly through reinvention.
Madonna now feeds chickens at her country estate in England and Boy George now feeds twinks the latest circuit beats while spinning in clubs. In his new book Straight (Random House), a sequel to his 1995 memoir Take It Like a Man, George talks about his '90s reinvention and dishes on dozens of celebrities, especially Madonna. Even if you're not a fan of Boy George, the first half of his book will hook you; the second half is just for devotees.
In the first few chapters, George discusses his constantly changing careers (DJ, newspaper columnist, fashion designer, TV host, etc.) alongside stories from his personal life (obsessions with straight men, spiritualism), while giving his opinions and observations on gay culture. The fact is that straight society is still fearful of gay culture and gay culture is constantly trying to appease that fear, he writes.
The second half of the book is a tedious diary-like account of every single person he came into contact with while mounting his semi-autobiographical stage musical Taboo. Madonna's close friend Rosie O’Donnell produced the Broadway run of Taboo, which gives George more opportunity to bitch about Madonna. For instance, there was the time she attended a performance of Taboo (an event this columnist actually witnessed in person). Madonna was laughing and talking a little too loudly, to the point that other patrons were actually shushing her. The night became more about watching Madonna watching the play than about watching the actual production, especially if you knew the drama between the two divas (see sidebar).
Voiceanth sidebar: (I LOVE this woman)
Throughout Straight, George provides lots of dirt on celebrities, including Gwen Stefani's hunky rock-star husband, Gavin Rossdale, whose bisexuality is exposed through his sexual relationship with George's best friend, drag queen singer Marilyn. He also discusses how Elton John's new friendship with George Michael ruined Boy George's chance to be part of the Velvet Mafia because of the constant feuding between the Georges. B

Quick sort-of sidebar before this turns ugly (I, for the record, love The Boy - don't kill me): Is Straight available in the States yet? Last I heard, it was only in print in the UK. I'm still plowing through Take it Like a Man, but I really want to read his second book as well.

Yes-- I have read the book as I am a complete fan of George O' Dowd. I loved the book and I must say that I love his stories and his vision of things.
Deb- It is not available in the states. I got it off EbayUK. Get it-you'll love it.
And if anyone doubts his stories-let's take Gavin's for instance...if you put boobs on Marilyn-who would he look like- Gwen-I guess Gavin got his Marilyn with female parts.
And I am not even gonna touch your last post Orph...not even going to...

Well, Boy George is supposedly clean and sober, so he must be very bored eating his Twinkies and drinking glasses of Half & Half.
He's a bloated, pudgy, bitter queen.

"he's a pig whose 15 minutes ended a long time ago and will do anything to stay in the spotlight... "
Some people don't even need their 15 minutes.

I personally like both Madonna and George, but I would like to comment a little on the things being said:
1. "Bo George - squandered Millions, alone, former drug addiction, lack of any real accomplishment!"
Madonna is not above "squandering", just as no one else in the world is. George is just vocal about it. As for "alone", what exactly do you mean? No relationship? No friends? And how exactly is it that you know that? And if you're going to knock people who have had drug addictions, you enjoy the work of about 3 people in the entertainment industry, excluding people like Ray Charles, Kelsey Grammar, Elton John, Billy Joel, and every rock band that ever existed. Lack of any real accomplishment? Since this is an opinion rather than a fact, I will simply say that millions of dollars, dozens of records, a broadway and west end musical, DJ career, solo career, several hit songs, two books, and a look that has made an imprint on pop history forever probably constitute an accomplishment. What exactly have you contributed?
2. "He's a bloated, pudgy, bitter queen."
"At least Madonna doesn't have a pot belly."
If you want to call him a b!tch, go ahead, he is. If you want to say he made sh!tty music, be my guest, your opinion is of no value to me. But to simply make fun of him because he's overweight is the most childish and immature thing I've seen on these boards. If you have a valid opinion, I wouldn't be offended, you're entitled to it. But to make fun of someone because of their weight makes me wonder whether you're an adult or a high school jock in a locker room. I could say Madonna is an insane, nymphomaniacal b!tch with a vocal range about as wide as Calista Flockhart, but that would just be nasty, wouldn't it? Act your age, not your shoe size.

There is simply no way to compare the lives of the two -
Madonna never did drugs and as for squandering - $650 million is a lot to try to squander - George works most of the time as a DJ, no?
Madonna has gone from strength to stength with a handful of small missteps - George is lucky to work at the Ch-Chi club in Chelsea!
Madonna has a husband and two children - George is still moaning over his drummer from 1984!
... and that George would OUT someone - OUT someone - to sell a book - is so low not even the worst poster on this board would do that!

Can I get an AMEN!
Voiceanth's return is really nothing more than his attempt to rile others at the expense of people far more talented than he could ever be. As I said in another thread, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to make yourself feel better by putting others down. It's so textbook, much like his return to the boards and desire to focus everyone on him with all these faux "controvercial" threads and opinions. It's way too easy to go after the Mary Kate's, Britneys, etc of the world. It's cliche. It's boring. Start singing a new tune. That is if YOU can even sing.
Had to add this and laugh. Madonna never did drugs? Now THAT is comedy my friend!
And no one on this board would out anyone? Again. Hilarious!
What's the matter Voiceanth. George not go home with you one night at a club?

AGAIN! LOVE the blocking thing! I love when posters return - for the sole reason to "Take me down"!
It makes who they really are so obvious and sad!..and with 400 ID changing programs out there - the idea of having 7 screen names, and not being caught, is no longer a remote possibility!
!!!!Good luck babes!!! Some people actually like me here! Who knows when I shall leave!!

Madonna has also contributed - and her success has led - to the cookie-cutter generation of crappy pop-stars. Inspiration? Not really. Aspiration to be like her has led to the Britneys and the Christinas.
And she's not the picture of perfection, I'm sure. Not some God damned saint like you're putting her up to be against George. I'm not saying he's right to do what he does, but surely she's done her share of wrong. God forbid.
The two are incomparable, anyway, aside from superficial crap.

Oh sweetheart. The truth hurts, but will set you free. You talk about the blocking feature and yet you must be reading my posts. That's also hilarious. You think I returned to take you down? What was your reason for returning? Returning to a board you've posted that you don't like, housed on a subject you don't like and amongst people you clearly have disdain for. Take you down? You're no one Voiceanth. Take you down would imply you were raised up in one form or another.
People like you here? Of course. Very few people are islands in this world.
And Voicey? This is my only screen name. Never had another.

See. You love faux-controversy too much, it's too delicious for you not to read me. Have me on ignore? I doubt that will ever happen.
So by your own logic, Voicey, if you left because you had a life, does that mean you don't have a life anymore?

I know this is the OT board - but let's try and keep on subject within the thread. Please keep personal attacks off the board and verbal sparring to PMs - or the thread will vanish...
Thanks
