So I just found out that Chihuly will have a permanent exhibit in the Indianapois Children's Museum debuting soon. (Very close to where I am from) It will be his largest sculpture he has ever created. "Fireworks of Glass" Why can't my Spring Break coincide with the grand opening on March 18. I am such a dork! And for any of you have no idea who I am talking about... http://www.chihuly.com/

I saw a Chihuly exhibit in Jerusalem- picture those enormous glass sculptures all over an ancient stone castle. Or better yet, click the link. :)
Chihuly: Jerusalem
his studio's work is magnificent (you do know, I'm sure, that he personally produces very little of it)
he's a local and quite renowned in these parts..I've actually never known if he was famous outside of the NW
he's involved in a very public legal fight presently with a former employee who is now producing work similar to what they did in his studio........
Plum,
I lived in Jerusalem when that exhibit was around and it was pretty amazing. Although after seeing a video about his process, I had a little less respect for him. He does these quick squiggle sketches, and doesn't really do the shaping of the glass (especially after his accident).
But yes...The Tower of David was a brilliant background for the peices.
Akiva
he has a home here in Palm Springs, seen him often at the airport......also saw CHIHULY over Venice.....in, um....96? can't remember, but was fantastic........he's a bit full of himself, and odd, but what artist isn't? Lot's of his work down here.......
I visited the Chihuly exhibit at the Garfield Conservatory in Chicago twice. It was breathtaking. I also loved his ceiling in the Bellagio lobby in Vegas.

brdlwyr - It was like Wonderland with little surprises popping up at every corner. I was stunned when that wedding party accidentally broke one of the pieces. I couldn't believe they would allow any function that would potentially include numerous inebriated guests so close to such a priceless and fragile exhibition.
Many of Dale Chihuly's works were exhibited and integrated into the Atlanta Botanical Garden from Spring of 2004 - December 31st, 2004. It was the Garden's most successful exhibition ever. One could see the glass scultures by daylight and then return in the evening to see the glass illuminated at night for a totally different experience. It was a terrific show. I think this exhibit moved on to Kew Gardens outside London after its Atlanta run.
