Here's my question: I am very prone to getting knots in my back. I get them even when I'm completely relaxed, but when I'm stressed I get really big, painful knots (sometimes so big that they're visible). I recently have been feeling like there are a couple spots in my back and shoulder that need to be "popped back in place". It makes sense that the spasms that cause the knots would eventually pull bones out of place, too. Some of my family and friends swear by chiropractors (and other alternative medicine), and others are completely against them (and any non-traditional medicine). I've never been to one, but want to give it a try. I'm just wondering what to expect.

I go to my chiropractor regularly and he's done wonders for my back problems. However, you may do better with a masseuse who gives deep tissue massages.

See if your insurance company covers it.

better yet.. find a good chiropractor with a masseuse. I go once a month for a adjustment and a massage. And my insurance covers it.

I do go to a massage therapist regularly, and that helps with the muscular pain, but I definitely feel like I need an adjustment, too! The neck cracking thing kind of scares me, and I'm not big on the idea of having to get x-rays if I don't need to. When they do the adjustments, do they hurt and feel better later, or do they just feel good at the time? And my insurance will partly cover it.

I try to get to my chiropractor once a month. With insurance, it's a $10 co-pay and totally worth it. Just make sure to pick one that has been personally recommended to you... you want your chiropractor to be really good, because if they aren't they could do serious damage to your back.

I've been going to a chiropractor for years and it really has helped. I have asthma, and sometimes when I'm having trouble breathing I just go to a chiropractor and it solves the problem. It took me two years to convince a friend of mine to go to a chiropractor, and when she finally did she felt so much better. I recommend them.
