Because of police crackdowns on underage drinking over the past several years (lots of places have been fined, shut down for weeks or even months and/or had their liquor licenses revoked entirely), every place I know has become very strict regarding checking IDs for everyone. Heck, I'm twice your age and get carded at nearly every bar I go. Perhaps, someone else has better advice, but other than getting a VERY good fake ID, I don't know what to tell you (and if you "look" 19, trust me, the doormen/bartenders are going to check it very carefully -- then again, I suppose if it's from the UK and looks official, most wouldn't know the difference between a real one and a fake).

As Margo said, honestly, you're going to have a hard time getting alcohol at a bar without a fake ID - and even with a fake ID, go only to dive bars. If you attempt to go anywhere too upscale with a fake ID, you won't get in and might get yours taken away by the bouncer.

Your best bet is ordering food at a restaurant (again, don't go to a very upscale one) along with alcohol at the table. Ordering wine looks a lot better than asking for the hardest thing they've got (i.e. you're less likely to get carded). Going out with a group of girls helps too. Updated On: 11/11/06 at 07:21 PM

Chumleys is around Bleecker and they don't card. And there are some Asian restaurants a block or two from Washington Square Park that don't card either... all meals include wine, if I recall.

There's a few gay places that might let you in if you're cute...therapy might, barrage might--they're both in the theatre district. But I don't get carded all that much and I look WAY younger than Margo; granted, I wear a romper and enter rolling a hoop, but still...

It shouldn't be 21.
If I can vote, go fight some stupid, idiot, greedy war, get married, I should be able to drink in public.
Luckily, I'm friends with some very nice people at many of the restaurants here in Las Vegas and they don't care.
I turn 21 in a 6 months and 2 days.
I'm counting down!
Welcome to NYC, btw :)

The only places I was ever able to get served in NYC before turning 21 was random Japanese karioke Bars (mainly Jappa's). But that was a few years ago, so I dont know if they are still around. Just be careful.

BroadwayBoobs: I'll give all of you who weren't there a hint of who took the pictures ...it rhymes with shameless
