Posted: 2/18/09 at 11:23pmI'm visiting NYC for spring break to go on college visits. Right now I'm thinking of visiting NYU, Marymount Manhattan, Fordham, Pace, Long Island, Eugene Lang, Columbia, and possibly Adelphi, Hofstra, Iona, Kean, and Wagner... do any of these jump out to you as somewhere I should NOT visit because of whatever reason? There are also schools like AADA, AMDA, Circle in the Square Theatre School, and Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute- do you recommend these? What are some colleges in NY you can think of that I have forgotten?

Definitely not Hofstra, Pace or MMC. Wagner is a great school! Depending on what kind of training you want, I do not suggest any of the 2 year program schools like AADA or AMDA, or Circle in the Square.

May I ask why not PACE, Didyoureallyhearme?
You have a very wide variety of schools. You should do a little more research on each school before you decide to visit all of them and waste your time. For example, Columbia and AMDA are at two different ends of the spectrum, they completely differ in environment and training.

Posted: 2/20/09 at 9:12pmI think the big question is are you going to concentrate specifically on theater or have theater be something you do to enjoy. I'm looking at a lot of the same schools as you, but I'm not planning on concentrating on acting. I want to do something within theater and act for fun, but I don't want to concentrate on it. Once you figure out the answer to that than it will be easier to knock a few off your list.

What, have you attended all these schools and know JP4 so well to know that he will not like any of them? Come on. What's not right for one person may be right for another. Geez.
JP4 - I go to Marymount so feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Posted: 2/20/09 at 11:27pmI have two friends in the theatre program at Marymount and they're both very happy. I'm an NYU student myself and couldn't be happier to be in the drama program here. Feel free to PM me as well if you have any questions.

Posted: 3/16/09 at 11:42amI had the same problem as Ashley. Just so you know, you're visiting during spring break so it may be a little misrepresentative of some of the schools you're visiting. Anyway, check out the Tisch building at 721 Broadway - see if you can find out about a drama program information session. And the welcome center is on the south side of Washington Square Park. They do tours that can be kind of helpful. Good luck. Again, let me know if you have any questions. (And maybe change your settings to accept PMs.)
