I wonder if this is based on a true event that happened in Key West, Florida, in the early 1900's.
A older man was madly infatuated/love with a younger woman. She was suffering from TB, and eventually died. After she was buried he went and exhumed her body from the cemetary and took it into his house. He lived with it for many years, using was to rebuild her decomposing body. He used lived as if she was alive, setting her place at the meal table, etc. All the while he worked as a medical technician at the local Navy hospital. Some young boys peered through the windows of his house one night and found the decomposed body of the young woman sitting in a chair dressed in a wedding gown.
A true story.
Any idea on the source for "Corpse Bride"?

In a nutshell, CB is based on European Jewish folklore...a nervous groom practices his wedding vows in the woods and places the ring on a stick sticking out of the ground. The stick is actually the skeletal hand of a woman murdered and buried in herwedding dress who then claims the young man as her "husband."
Burton and his scenarists have added much to this premise to make it a feature film, inculding four new musical numbers by Danny Elfman.
The voice cast includes Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Emily Watson, Christopher Lee, Joanna Lumley, Albert Finney and Danny Elfman.
