Cypress HS students suspended for disarming gunman?

Came across this article on reddit but didn't see it anywhere else. The article states that Florida law "allows the principal to suspend a student immediately pending a hearing". I don't really understand why the students were suspended, except to give them time/space to understand what happened, etc. I think I'd want a few days off for my own mental health but that's just me. The suspension might be in the students best interest.
