The big news this month is the restored Metropolis with extra footage. I haven't seen the new footage yet, but I hear they couldn't clean it up that well due to the erosion of the stock. Still, it's an amazing find for a historic and cultural touchstone.

We get Avatar's extended-extended edition with even more new footage (above and beyond what they added for the theatrical re-release). Fox has said from the first dvd/bd release that there would be a double dip version for the holidays, so I'll give them points for at least being honest.

Lots of summer hits (and misses) and some Oscar contenders (The Kids Are Alright, Winter's Bone).

Both Fantasias on BD, and 3 anticipated Disney docs all drop at the end of the month. And of course Toy Story 3, which is already out.

And I must mention Sondheim's birthday concert arrives in stores tomorrow!

ANYWAY!!!

WAKING SLEEPING BEAUTY is the only one I'm looking forward to -- but, of course, they won't release it 'til the end of the month!
