A waitress in New Jersey who previously served in the Marines received an offensive note from a family who denied her a tip because of her "gay lifestyle." Now, she is speaking out against those very people whose freedom she once defended.
Dayna Morales, a server at Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, N.J., wrote an email to gay-friendly blog "Have A Gay Day" about her recent experience with homophobia while serving a family of diners, reports Gay Star News. When Morales introduced herself to the couple and their two children, the mother was allegedly shocked by Morales' short hair.
"Oh I thought you were gonna say your name is Dan," she allegedly said. "You sure surprised us!"
At the end of the meal, Morales was left with no tip on the $93.55 bill. Instead, she found a note on the receipt, reading: "I'm sorry but I cannot tip because I don't agree with your lifestyle & how you live your life."

I'm hearing way too many stories like this lately.Really pisses me off. I think these servers need to take the check before these people leave. It would have to be a policy practiced on all patrons. I'm guessing these people write these notes then run out of the restaurant as fast as they can.I doubt they would want to be confronted face to face.
My question is, if they have the credit card info already can they go ahead and add 15% regardless? I use to work room service at a hotel and the gratuity was automatically added on with each order.

Of course I'll have to do it at some place other than here in NYC. I mean, where the hell would I find a straight waiter here?

There was another recently where a black server had no tip and the N-word was written across the tip line. It ended up on Facebook and she was given a week off, with pay, for it somehow ending up on the net. (She said she didn't upload it.) Well, people traced the credit card and released the person's name. He, of course, was attacked from all sides. The server had all kinds of donations come in for her. It turned out, however, the customer left a cash tip and didn't write the word. The server did, trying to get some attention.
I take most of these with a grain of salt. This one doesn't really reek of BS, though.

I think attention. As Jersey Girl mentioned there has been a number of cases with racist/homophobic/whatever comments written on receipts.
They always get attention and usually money.
The patron got it right when she said (paraphrase) that there is enough hate in the world without having to manufacture any more.
