At the last couple of shows I went to, I was wondering if any of my homeboys or homegirls from broadwayworld.com were there.
One of my favorite posters could be sitting next to me and I wouldn't know it.
If we don't have one, I thinking of making the letter "b" with the fingers of one hand and the letter "w" with the fingers of the other. (Its doable. I tried it) and you could flash the "bw" sign at someone and if they flashed it back, just like a gang sign, you could introduce yourselves as members of the bww gang.

Or, ya know. You could just turn to the person and say "You don't, by any chance, post on Broadwayworld.com, do you?".
It's too easy though, I know.

I just always wear pink.
I love the idea of the secret sign, though.
When I was at the Victoria Clark concert last night I kept saying to my friend that I was pretty sure there were other BWWers there...

For some of us it is just a glance in the right direction.

A sign would be cool but how do you get the person to look over at you anyways?
BTW, if you were in Palmer Highschool today and were wearing a Rent shirt.. SPEAK UP!

...just a glance and a hunch, brd.

Posted: 2/11/06 at 5:37pmYou know someone brought this up over at Talkin'Broadway a couple of years ago. They came up with a small badge - only about an inch diameter, in dark brown with their initials on it - for posters to wear when they went to the theatre. I used to see lots of them whenever I went - both in NY and DC. I wonder if anyone would consider something like that?

Wexy, that's too funny. The only problem is that none of my friends or family know that I post here and I don't want them to. It's not that I'm ashamed, but I don't want them all up in my bww business. So, I can’t have people coming up to me and asking me if I’m shameless. That might be hard to explain.

left hand - put your thumb and index finger together. In a circle. Remaining fingers straight up.

you position your thumb and index finger so that the tips touch. then you hold the remaining fingers straight up parallel to one another and tightly touching.
because i'm new i feel can say that i think a secret sign sends the wrong message for this fabulous community. my impression is that you are all about welcoming new people to the theater community. creating a secret sign for broadway world makes it sound exclusionary. why not just ask on the board if anyone is going to whatever show you're going to on the night you're going? isnt' that the way it should be?

Curly, here’s the thing, and, bww, correct me if I’m wrong, but I think it’s like this.
We welcome, with open arms, the people who discover us on their own, but we’re not really ready to start advertising to the general public. In other words, we don't usually recruit.

Posted: 2/11/06 at 6:22pmyou mean you pick and choose who from broadway you meet at the theater? only some people will have the secret sign? oh my. now here is a shattered illusion.

You just confused me. I thought the idea was for those of us who know each other from this message board but who haven't met in the "real" world to be able to identify each other.

While it seems asking if someone is going to be there is logical, wouldn't you hate it if there were about 20 threads on bww each night just asking if someone was going to be with you?
Also, there's no guarantee a bwwer would read that particular thread anyways.

Shameless, that's what I believe he meant.
There are many of us who post here, and probably attend the same events but have never met in person. So, we may be in a theatre with lots of other BWW fans and never know it. I frequently wonder who else from BWW is seeing a show or concert that I attend.
Nothing exclusionary about it. Quite the opposite, in fact.

we confused each other shameless.
#23re: Do We Have A Secret Sign?
Posted: 2/11/06 at 6:32pmMamie, I like the idea of a badge or something. They should sell BWW badges and then we could all wear them when we went to the theatre.... or a pin.

If you get to know me, you'll see that confusion is my natural state. But, by all means, meet as many people as you like at the theatre!
