What if it ended up being a race between Hillary and Condoleeza Rice? Imagine THAT campaign!
Apparently Rice is preparing for just such an eventuality--she, or someone acting on her behalf, is already putting up websites with slogans such as, "Condi, not the Blondie." Ugh.

Posted: 11/7/06 at 10:49pmRice will be carrying a lot of Iraq War baggage with her if she enters a race for the Presidency. I don't see her doing it myself. As Secretary of State she's been the main spokesperson for the current administration and would have to defend every statement she's made on this war. Not exactly an ideal spot to be in.

What the heck is up with Howard Dean? Chris Mathews and Lou Dobbs interviewed him within the last two hours and he sounded like a softer kinder Dubya.
It sounds like Laura, Barney and Dean are supporting the president in staying the course.

What about a Clinton/Clinton ticket?
Hilary and Bill?

Wow, a Condi/Clinton race would be fascinating! As would a Condi/Obama race.
If Condi does run, this might be Ross Perot's big chance to finally win!

Posted: 11/8/06 at 9:14amI think the Dems can dig up a much less controversial candidate than Hillary. Divisive being the buzz word of the decade, she'd epitomize that in a presidential race.

Clinton will never win. That is the one political thing I'm sure of. I've said it before - the conservatives HATE her. Not dislike, not tolerate - H.A.T.E. And I'm talking your average American voter.
You can't believe the crap I put up with with my family because I have voted for her as senator.

That opinion is changing, Rath.
My family, let me give you some background.
My dad is currently about to become a licensed, fundamental church minister. He was offered the head pastorship of a church on Sunday.
This is the same father who voted for Pat Robertson for President in the primaries in the 80s. The same one who voted for Bob Dole against Bill Clinton.
He has said to me on the phone at least three times, "I hope Hillary runs. She has my vote."

condi rice is not very bright, although that never stopped anyone from becoming president. ideally, i would love for al gore to be the prez.
honestly, i think many people in this country are too bigoted to vote for a black man or a woman. maybe they won't say so, but in the privacy of the booth they can do as they please. i think hilary is the wet dream candidate for the republicans. for the moment, obama is a pleasing talking head.

bwaysinger, I think that your dads change of opinion is the exception rather than he rule. Hilary still has plenty of haters, especially in my household. 'Clinton' is considered a curse word in my family!!
Personally tho, I'd love to see a Clinton/Guilliani showdown. Oooh, yeah!
#38re: Do you really want her as President?
Posted: 11/8/06 at 2:55pmI'd vote for her, but I also agree with jasonf. This country is still too conservative to elect a female President, and the Democrats can't afford to throw away the election by having her as their candidate. Especially if she's up against Guiliani, who many people will remember as the man who led NYC through tragedy on 9/11.

Posted: 11/8/06 at 3:00pmJason. I wouldn't hold your breath if I were you, if you actually think that a rep(like myself) is going to vote for her? Yea ok, when pigs fly. On second thought, even if they did, I still wouldn't.

You might not like her politics but Rice is not the dullest knife in the drawer, Garland. Or is it Dr. GG?

Guiliani can only hope for VP. He's on his third marriage, and breaks with the party over abortion and gay rights. He'll never make it in the South.

Well, she may have multiple degrees from Notre Dame and University of Denver, but her understanding of Near Eastern and Middle Eastern politics and culture is laughable. Or, at least, it would laughable if it hadn't resulted in so many US and Iraqi dead.
It's like when people say Bush is "smart" because he has Ivy League degrees. Show me one smart thing he DID and I'll agree that he's smart.

Bluemoon, I'll tell you what one major thing about it was: he retired.
That's when he woke up to the realization that the Republican policies since 2000 have been to gut retirement for seniors. Furthermore, my dad has inexplicably been purged from military records and is suddenly not eligible for hjs military retirement (which was also gutted by the "supporters of the military", the Republican party).
so, more than any single thing SHE'S done, she represents a very different perspective for him right now.

Posted: 11/8/06 at 5:17pmhillary's problem is not from the right, but from the left. the true believers who have worshiped at the altar saint howie have no love at all for clinton style triangulation. i don't see her as being able to get through the democratic primary. her opponents in those contests will use her supposed unpopularity or divisiveness as a reason why she should not be the nominee in '08. she'd have to run a heckuva primary campaign to be able to win over the party activists who see her and bill and the dlc as republican-lite. to do that she'd have to tack way to the left and by doing so would depress her numbers among moderates which would reinforce the theory that she's unelectable. in my opinion, she's in a bit of a pickle.

Posted: 11/8/06 at 5:43pmLet's not condescend to "the South" too much, shall we? There may be those who would vote against Hillary/Condoleeza/Obama for racist or sexist reasons, but there would also be those who would vote FOR such candidates merely to prove that not all Southerners are racist and sexist.

That's why I want her to decide to stay put in the Senate, where she garners the respect of her colleagues and 69% of the constituents.
And friends who have worked alongside her swear she's NOT going to run.

Posted: 11/9/06 at 12:32amHillary Clinton would make an amazing president. But we live in a world of double standards and she would never, ever win. Which is so frustrating. But true, unfortunately. I would love to see her as VP first, maybe then she could garner more of the respect she deserves.
