Art Garfunkel has one of the great singing voices ever. Paul Simon is an arrogant SOB who writes wonderful songs and has a boring, tuneless singing voice.

I agree with your sentiments about Art Garfunkel. He has an amazing voice unmatched by anyone else. I think that's why his voice matched with Simon's songwriting skills made a perfect team. However, I do enjoy Paul Simon on his own. He is incredibly talented, albeit a little self-centered. But he is Paul Simon, he's allowed to be.

re: Does anyone else love Simon and Garfunkel?

I feel just the opposite. Whenever I hear an S&G cover it always sounds terrible compared to the original. Same with the Beatles.

Same with me, JLC. If I hear one more oversung cover of "Bridge Over Troubled Water", someone is getting knifed.

I grew up with Simon and Garfunkel. "The Only Living Boy in New York" is pretty much my all-time favorite song.

There is an awesome cover of "Bridge" by Aretha. Trust me. Just as good as the original. From 1971.

I've never heard that, actually, and I love Aretha! Thanks for the recommendation!

No problem. It is on many Greatest Hits collections if you look on Amazon. I believe it is also a live cut.

I enjoy Simon & Garfunkel. I like listening to their music. My aunt was really into them back in the day. Should I mention that I know Paul Simon's kids. His daughter is my little sister's best friend. Great & talented family re: Does anyone else love Simon and Garfunkel?

Oh Cecelia! I'm down on my knees. I'm begging you please to come home...

When I was younger, we always listened to all these oldies cassette tapes. One of these tapes was this live concert thingie of there...wait I just googled and realized it was half live, half recorded songs. Wow. Some songs do have applause and some don't come to think of it...wow

Mrs. Robinson
For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her
The 59th Street Bridge Song
The Sound of Silence
I Am A Rock
Scarborough Fair
Homeward Bound
Bridge Over Troubled Water
America
El Condor Pasa
Cecelia

Kathy's Song and Bookends were on there as well but I can't remember those songs...

Love them and have too many of their cd's...I really enjoy the "Concert in Central Park" recording (with the additional lyrics to The Boxer) and I enjoy both their voices.

Ha! I thought I was the only one who lived the "Cecilia" song.

I love them, too. I grew up when their songs were played on 77 WABC Music Radio.

I don't know about the radio...but I remember singing "Feeling Groovy" in music class in grammar school. We also sang the "Bridge song" (which I've never really enjoyed)and Homeward Bound in those classes.

Funny, we never sang "Mrs Robinson" though...Hmmm...

Back in the day, a group called Harpers Bizarre had the hit single version of "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)".

"Art Garfunkel has one of the great singing voices ever."

Amen. And it's more than beautiful...it's expressive and haunting and full of emotion. If you've never heard "All I Know" you've got to give it a listen.

wickedrentq, I love "For Emily Wherever I May Find Her" too. "The Boxer" is probably my favorite. I prefer Art's version of "Bridge" although I do enjoy Aretha's take. When Clay Aiken did it I wanted to slit my wrists! It was all grandiose and show-stoppy and lacked any sort of feeling.

Does anyone else love Simon and Garfunkel?

In a word, yes. For me, Art's voice was a rare thing of beauty.

Bookends is my favorite of their songs.

Love 'em.

I was raised on their songs, as well. I always associate them with "childhood" though.

It's funny how I consider Simon & Garfunkel, Judy Collins and the Beatles just as much a part of my own "childhood canon" as the scores to Mary Poppins or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

They're all "kiddie songs" in my perception, because that's when I first embraced them.

But they've stayed with me my whole life. I have their box set collection on my iPod.

"Bookends is my favorite of their songs."

Bookends is beautiful. Does anyone remember when it was used as the backdrop in the final scene of Paul's Bar Mitzvah (episode of The Wonder Years)? It was just perfect.
