Even though it's a non-presidential year, there are still plenty of reasons to vote, and none not to. Governor in NJ, mayor in NYC, and other local races and issues everywhere.

I am dropping my ballot off this afternoon.

It kind of saddens me that they are expecting a low turnout. At the beginning of the year friends and I were talking and all agreed that the Presidential election, even as important as it was, was also an "event" and half the people that voted wouldn't go out and vote for local issues. Looks like that is what is happening.

I went out and voted. Sadly though, the only election that means something for my area is the NJ Governor. If you look at the sample ballot I got in the mail, everything else is 1 or 2 people running and its all Republican. The 2 people means you should be electing 2 people.

Our 2 big issues are Medical Marijuana and Vehicle Impoundment. People are taking advantage of the medical marijuana program here. The "elephant in the room" for impoundment has to do with illegal aliens. A lot driving with no licenses or insurance. The big push is not to have it go through. The opponents are saying your car can be impounded if you don't have your license on you. What they aren't telling people is that the Ordinance says that if you have corraborating ID, your car will not be impounded. I hope it goes through.

I for one will be pretty happy to see this campaign season end. After months of sitting through ads for NJ governor, NYC mayor, Hoboken mayor and maybe one or two for Bayonne council at large... And I'm only voting for two of those!

I know who I'm voting for, and I honestly have faith in him, but it's been a long, ugly campaign.

Both the candidates for mayor here suck.

Out here in Suffolk County we have elections for Town Supervisor and other local elections. I was doing some Christmas shopping today and reminded the clerks about voting as I checked out. Two of the clerks (mature women) responded that these weren't important elections. I reminded them that these were INDEED important elections. These were the candidates who would fix potholes, take care of garbage and recycling and sponsor local programs to benefit the community. Suddenly these clerks realized that local elections should be taken seriously.

Also, my old hometown could become the largest city to elect an openly gay mayor (well, more likely, today, they'll become the largest city to vote an openly gay mayoral candidate into a runoff).

In Ohio. I'm about to head out to make sure they don't ruin our public libraries. (I couldn't care less about the casino issue, to be honest. There are clear pros and cons to both decisions.)

My hometown too, and I'm so proud of 'em. I think Parker has generally been second behind Brown in polls, but I'm not sure.

EDIT: Wow. She currently has the most votes. Updated On: 11/3/09 at 07:33 PM
