"Signaling a change in directions for the Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has tapped two Oscarcast first-timers to oversee the 81st annual event, with Laurence Mark to produce and writer-director Bill Condon as executive producer."
Do you think with Bill Condon attached, the Oscars will now be watchable?
One Night Only
No, because he'll trip over himself trying to justify why they are giving awards.
Go, Bill!
I think it's terrific. I'm really tired of the podium and the bloated Carol Burnett Show sets.
They always throw a new coat of paint on everything (including themselves) and walk the same walk, and talk the same talk.
Nothing's changed for almost 40 years, since they first began televising the ceremony. It's the same basic format.
I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

Mr. Condon isn't exactly a breath of fresh air, is he? He's not exactly known for pushing boundaries or taking things in new directions.
It'll be the same old same old Oscars. Competently done, no doubt, but those expecting anything revolutionary are fooling themselves.

Agreed! Too bad Luis Bunuel is dead- the host could come in dragging a piano and a dead mule. He lines up the five best actress nominees and walks past them slowly examining each. Suddenly he reaches down and slits Cameron Diaz's eye. She screams and rolls on the stage as he hands her an oscar. The other four women point to the next presenter (Mel Gibson) who is beating a dog. He takes out a walnut and goes into the audience where he hands it to Brad Pitt and then removes his shirt and begins to rouge his left nipple....
As long as it's not the same people who did the Emmys this year... One of my favorite Oscar openings is when they had the giant gold Oscars on stage and then they came alive- it was really cool!
