I really don't think "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" or the ban on gays in the military is going to last, if only because of practical reasons. There will come a point when high-powered people in the military will weigh the "risks" of letting in gays against the fact that they simply need more personnel and are having a hard time recruiting. The military was (admittedly reluctantly) letting in and integrating blacks well before much of America, because they needed the soldiers. They're not a model of progressive thinking, but eventually they'll see that they're just shooting themselves in the foot with this policy.

Back in the days of segregated units, they did just that to minority soldiers, but that kind of crap is harder to pull in an integrated military.
