It's right at Hollywood and Vine. I think it's the old Brown Derby building.
A little more than a mile from where I live. I can hear the helicopters outside.
EDIT: They're saying the building housed a fair amount of "memorabilia." Not sure what kind. The newscasters are vague and kinda ignorant.
CORRECTION: Not the old Brown Derby building. It's on the other side of the street.

Posted: 4/30/08 at 6:26pmThis is happening right around the corner from me. It's just a nightclub (Basque) and some trashy store fronts. The night club was being closed today for renovations anyway (kinda suspicious). But the fire was never close enough to the Pantages for any real concern. Otherwise, all is well in La La Land.

I fondly remember the old Times Square - Forty Deuce - with all of the theaters & everything you can think of
Times Square is nice now but in many ways better before. It has been homogenized & pastuerized .

Posted: 4/30/08 at 7:43pmI hope so too, but it was very early in the morning. As light as I would like to be about this, I do feel for the owners of those businesses. The dirty little burger stand was on of my favs and I just bought a new bong at the head shop last night (I try to support my local owned shops). Too sad. I suppose I'll see more when i go home. I live on Ivar, one block up from Hollywood.
