Florida to offer Christian license plates

Looks like Florida is on the verge of offering two Christian-themed license plates. One has an image of a stained glass window with a cross, and the other has an image of Jesus on the cross. Governor Charlie Crist has indicated that he has no problem with this.

I think this crosses the line of state-endorsed religion.

It's just a vanity plate. Any group who can get enough petition signatures can have their cause voted on. Of course, more controversial plates never pass. Choose Life plates are all over the South. Why wouldn't they have a Christian ones?

Crosses the line of state endorsed religion? For real? It's just a license plate. I mean, if the state allowed someone had like a license plate with Mickey Mouse on it, would you say that the state endorsed Disney? There's nothing wrong with putting Christian symbols on an optional set of plates. No one is forced to buy the plates.

This is a no win The plate will be wildly popular.The ACLU will, of course, sue and the plate will be tossed on Constitutional grounds.Once again, we will be painted as the party which hates Jesus.

Question: Did they ever approve the "Support Israel" plate with the Star of David? I remember that had been discussed.I feel they should offer plates with all religions. I for one want my "Praise to the almighty Satan" license plate!

Yeah, I mean, I agree it's more than a little off-putting watching members of the Bloody Lamb Cult marking every single thing they can with their gang symbols, but I don't think it's a church and state issue at all.

Thanks for posting that link, MrMidwest. I think that article clearly demonstrates that church-state issues are implicated. Unless you're going to offer state-issued license plates for any and every possible religion, it's best for the state to stay out of that arena. Let the Christians (or members of any other religious faith) express their beliefs with bumper stickers, or fish, or anything else all over their vehicle that isn't state-issued.

Oh - I think they should have one for every religion. And one for the nonbelievers too. Not to mention my choice - the 'none of your da_n business' plate.
