Hey guys
My school's musical for next semester is going to be Footloose and I was wondering if anyone could suggest an audition song for me. I did a search on this (in case anyone asks), but most of the posts seemed to be about auditioning for the younger half of the cast, and I'm hoping to go out for the role of Vi. I'm typically a soprano, but can also sing mezzo quite comfortably. I'd really appreciate any suggestions people might have for me.
I think I'm going auditioning for this show later this year at a small theatre in the area (or Ragtime) and I don't know a lot about Footloose but I'm a tenor and not a great dancer, are there any non-dancing roles?
The whole point of the Willard character is that he can't dance. I'd recommend going for that.

Vi's songs aren't as "rock & roll"-ish as the other characters, so I reccomend "once you lose your heart" from "Me And My Girl"
And for the non dancer guy: I played Lyle (one of chuck's friends) in middle school, and I wasn't a good dancer at all but it worked out fine. I'm not sure if they'll have that character dance in community theater though.

^^^I was responding to the second poster, not the thread originator.
Honestly, I would recommend finding a production being done by a local group and skipping out on your school musical. I've been in Footloose twice and it is utter dreck from beginning to end. If you absolutely have your heart set on playing Vi, just find a nice mid-tempo. The part doesn't require any vocal fireworks, so I'd fight the urge to pick a flashy song.

I actually did wind up using Once You Lose Your Heart for the audition, and it went quite well. I was one of two girls called back for Vi, though I didn't wind up getting the part. I don't really mind though, I'm just a freshman at my university and the girl who got it is a senior so I've got plenty of time to work my way up in the ranks. I'll be playing Aunt Lulu- small part, but still fun to be in the show!
