It turns out that the American plane, full of officials, shot down over Iran ....... was Hungarian. With no officials on board.
As much as I despise Fox News, I blame this one on the Iranians.

To my knowledge all of the former eastern block countries and former Soviet republics have an air force. That is because the Soviets had bases everywhere. When the Soviet Union collapsed, Russian troops based in the Eastern block went home, but many of the armaments stayed behind. As in the former USSR republics, the bases became property of the new republics, however they lost the financial support of Mother Moscow.
