#1What You Can Do to Help Elect John Kerry
Posted: 11/1/04 at 8:54am
(1) VOTE. It's every citizen's right, and I would add, obligation to vote. Although John Kerry is easily expected to win New York, the Democrats need a huge turnout to pull off a decisive victory. If Kerry can win the popular vote by a significant margin, any legal scuffles over voting will be moot. ALSO: Plan to allow more time than usual at your local polling place, since you may have to wait to vote. Be patient, it's worth it.
(2) URGE YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO VOTE. This is the most effective way to ensure a large turnout, since your opinion and influence will mean more than any outside source.
(3) MAKE PHONE CALLS TO NEWLY REGISTERED VOTERS IN "SWING" STATES. History has shown that these last-minute calls have helped to get out the vote. There are phone banks all over the country. If you're in Manhattan, there are several Kerry phone centers set up downtown. On Tuesday, November 2nd, shifts are available from 9am-1pm, 1pm-5pm, and 5pm to 9pm.
RSVP to 212-764-7104 to be part of a Kerry phone bank at:
* Carpenters Union headquarters at 395 Hudson Street (between Clarkson & Houston Streets)
* DC37 headquarters at 125 Barclay Street (enter on Murray Street)
* United Federation of Teachers headquarters at 52 Broadway (a few blocks south of Wall Street)
