GREASE: New Reality Show

As I was watching the Macys Thanksgiving day parade this past Thursday, I was informed by Al Roker that there will be a reality "talent" competition in search of the new Danny and Sandy for the revival of GREASE on broadway in 2007. It sounds really interesting, and I'm glad they're doing something to show broadway to the world who may not have been exposed to the hard work it takes to be on broadway. I hope it's going to be a good show.

I just hope that people who are sincerely passionate about theatre end up on that show. I'm somewhat doubting that everyone on the show will be that way...but it would be ideal.

They're making it more like the movie too. I heard the classic songs in the musical are being replaced with the ones written for the movie. Songs like "Mooning" and "All Choked Up." I'm not thrilled about that at all.

What??? They took out Mooning? That's one of my favorite songs in the show! I think I'm going to go cry now. I'm not happy about this show at all. It's nothing like a real Broadway audition, and I garuntee they will make things easier for the contestants. Also what about the starving equity actors who aren't being given a fair shot?

We had "How do you solve a problem like Maria" here in the UK for the SofM revival. All the "theatre types" slagged it off - but you know what......glowing reviews, millions sold in tickets, and a new star (Connie Fisher) - you'll be fine!

When did Broadway have to sink to the level of reality TV.....it's disgusting...

I'm not too worried. It'll be a reality show worth watching (hey, the winners will end up living in my city; don't tell me it isn't relevant! :P), and the UK reality show for casting Sound Of Music resulted in what's supposed to be a brilliant production.

"Mooning" has not been taken out as far as I know. My friend's sister has been cast as Jan and they plan on her singing a little more than Jan normally does in "Mooning." I can't wait for the TV show.
