Maybe Trading Up Soon at Justice
August 24, 2007 06:02 PM ET | Bedard, Paul
The buzz among top Bushies is that beleaguered Attorney General Alberto Gonzales finally plans to depart and will be replaced by Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff. Why Chertoff? Officials say he's got fans on Capitol Hill, is untouched by the Justice prosecutor scandal, and has more experience than Gonzales did, having served as a federal judge and assistant attorney general.

Recalling one of the greatest blunders in BWW poster history...
Oh Pal...is it Good Friday????????
LOL
You've counted him out before.
What will Reid/Pelosi/Kennedy/Schumer/Murtha and company do when they don't have Gonzales to kick around any more?

PJ, I bet they wait until Friday - because it is a holiday weekend, and a slow news cycle. And though it may not be the "Good Friday" it will be a good Friday.
But Chertoff, the man makes Marc Anthony look healthy.

Any day Gonzales goes is Good Friday to me.
Sorry I didn't see your previous thread. I just came back from vacation and my flight was delayed 5 hours, so my brain was foggy.

No worries, like I said, great minds think alike.
Chertoff, though he performed miserably with Katrina (as did many people) is not a lifelong Bush ally, and not to my knowledge a traditional neocon, but more of a traditional conservative, so he has got to be better than Gonzales, so I would take him over status quo. I read a few interviews about him and thought that he seemed like a disciplined, principled man (I did not agree with all of his principles, but at least he has them) so that is at least a place to start).
This is good news to me if it does happen, and a first step in rehabilitating the Justice Department.

That made me laugh!

Posted: 8/26/07 at 11:43amWow, what a PR nightmare. After going through all of the trouble to apparently keep Gonzales despite the scandal, he's going to resign now? They could at least have saved face if he'd resigned or been fired months ago. At this rate, Bush is going to be the only one left in his own administration.

Posted: 8/26/07 at 1:26pmIf he's going to last till 2008, Bush is going to HAVE to make some new friends. I am tired of the same dozen dickheads circulating through the system.

Yep, he's gonna resign.
Trust Pal joey, he's only been wrong twice before.

It's better to be wrong twice than to be an a$$hole ALL THE TIME!
That's what I always say.

Posted: 8/26/07 at 10:17pmthis administration has demonstrated a ridiculous proclivity to cling to appointees long past their usefulness and to let them go at the time when it can do them the least amount of good. letting rummy go in the face of the '06 debacle is a good example.

Joey's previous statement is as true as the FABRICATED [signature] quote that he tries to pawn off as true.
How limp, lame, and effete.

Papa--you are right. Rumfeld WANTED to resign before the election--and if he had, who knows? The public might have rallied a bit behind some of the Republican candidates who lost.
If Bush accepts Gonzales's resignation--which, as I have said, was offered before Good Friday--it will be after so much damage has been done to the Constitution and the Rule of Law, which now forevermore will be viewed as something a Republican administration trampled on.
