Hallelujah

Posted: 10/26/06 at 1:15amI'm looking for the name of an artist who sings the Hallelujah song. It's a modern version done mostly a cappella sung by a girl who sounds fairly young. If anyone knows what I'm talking about or who the artist is, that'd be great.

Hallelujah
Words & music by Leonard Cohen
I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Your faith was strong, but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Baby I've been here before, I know this room
I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you
I've seen your flag on the Marble Arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah
There was a time you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
I remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Maybe there's a God above, all I ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who out drew you
And it's not a cry you can hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
On the I'm Your Fan album, various artists covering Leonard Cohen songs. Released in 1991.
Cale's version was used in the Shrek movie, but it is not included on the soundtrack.

I've gone on record about this before, but have to say it again. In my opinion, the late, great Jeff Buckley's version (from Grace) is the best.

Ok...maybe it's just me, but I'm shocked that you all knew what she was talking about by "the Hallelujah" song.....
Off the top of my head I could sing you about 25 different songs that have Hallelujah in them. To be honest, the first "Hallelujah" song that comes to mind is from Handel's Messiah! Guess that's what happens when you're a church choir director!
Anyway, I'm glad you found the answer you were looking for!
